armourall all purpose wipes

I was wondering if it is safe to use these wipes on my engine? and the pipes around the engine bay etc.

I would say they would be ok on the plastic bits and hoses etc. I use something similar called literally ''Black Wipes'' which are pretty much the same without any problem but the only thing I would say is that the slightest drop of water leaves streaks etc.

If you have the time use ''Black Wax'', it comes in a small bottle and I got mine from a shop in Scarborough but Halfords sell it as well. This has to be applied with a cloth and polished up but it does not streak like ArmourAll. Also, Williams trim gel is quite good and its clear so you dont get your hands filthy.
