Hi all.

i am deciding on my caterers for the reception part of my wedding.

From any experiences you may or may not have had, who would you choose between Ragamama's or Madhu's...

Thanks guys

Madhus as in Madhu's Brilliant in Southall, Boss? If so, I haven't tried their wedding catering, but the food in the restaurant was close to superb (just don't order the lamb ribs, really not worth the bother). The service was fine, if odd - it is rare in an Indian restaurant to have your waiter come up and say, "Hi, I'm Sanjay I will be your server this evening" to be followed up by the are you enjoying your meal questions about every 10 minutes and then, bizarrely, a service questionnaire to fill in at the end, just like in a chain hotel. I can only assume one of the management went on an MBA.

Apart from that, and clearly that wouldn't happen at the wedding, I think with Madhus you will get a spectacular meal if it is like the restaurant. Their masala lamb chops are to die for. Most go back soon.

Hi, yes them.

my father is very close to the owner of Madhu's. restaurant and tasters are superb. Wedding experience less so, but i need to make a decision asap..

Just to throw another name into the hat... Mahir Caterers from Birmingham are absolutely top drawer.

My brother used Madhus for his wedding. To be truthful, I've never heard of the other one. Ours was done by Sapna, Sapna Caterers, Asian Wedding Caterers, Indian Wedding Catering, London Caterers, Indian Weddings, Asian Weddings, also are you just looking for food or someone to do the whole of the function managment, flowers, stage, theme etc...

ideally the whole lot, but we are trying to sort out caterers first then work the rest, as it is important to have decent food.. otherwise an epidemic of delhi belly isnt gonna go down too well.

im thinking

1. caters in isolation
2. theme by a specific company and
3. dj by recommendation as a separate entity...

Hi
We used the roti bar in peterborough for our catering, the food was exceptional and at a price that wasnt out of this world. i dont know where you are based but i know he travels all over the country catering for weddings
Top class and definately worth a call 01733 349349
Hope everything works out for you.

I've been to quite a few weddings and events by Payal - Asian catering, theming and event management specialists

We did ours in the way you've described, source the best or most appropriate of each as opposed to a 'generalist'

Ive had both a lot and Madhu's is consistently good. They can pretty much cater for any budget..
I have had Madhu's at the National History museum sitting under a dinosaur and ive had it in a sports hall in southall! Always good food.

We had Raga's at my friends last year and quality was awesome... I vote Raga's just because i always go for the underdog..

Hi

Of the two I would say Madhu's, based on the fact that I have never heard of or experienced Ragamama's.
Of the many firms we looked at, in the end it came down to a choice between Greenleaf and Saffron d'or (http://www.saffron-dor.com).
We opted for Saffron, one because my wifes late cousin knew the owner so he did us a good deal that brought it into our budget and secondly because their food, style and service were head and shoulders above everyone else and thirdly our venue the Conrad in Chelsea Harbour, would accept them as an external caterer.
However, we got married 5 years ago, so a lot may have changed, but as your father is close to the owner of Madhus's then you should get the "one of their own" levels of service so should be the better bet.
When it comes down to event management for the day, my only tip would be make sure that someone other than you and your wife knows what you want to happen on the day, something my Wife and I forgot to do, so we where trying to direct things from the stage.

Finally, regards DJ's, we went to a friends wedding last year and they had the legendary Tony Patti from Sunrise Radio, must say he was quite good.

I don't care who you use.
Just save me a doggy bag :)

Bugger all that malarky! Do as me and Mrs A did, camper van tour around New Zealand, got wed on neive of Fox Glacier, 6500 feet up Mount (Aoraki) Cook. Had a burger later in the day whilst texting daughter and rest of the clan!

Hi
Have you looked at Sapna Catering.

They were just fantastic.

Others to consider along with Madhus are Payal and Greenleaf. Not heard of or had Ragamama's myself.

They dont really have much to do with each other due to a fight between the two brothers. Each have their own restaurant i.e. Brilliant and Madhus but if you eat at both the restaurants most of the food tastes the same with Madhus being better of the two IMO.

I knew about the split many years ago, and for a period there was the Brilliant and Madhu's Brilliant, before the latter became just Madhu's. Such is my advanced senility I keep referring to it as Madhu's Brilliant, despite the shortening of the name. Having eaten several times at both, I conclude that both serve stonkingly good food, but the Brilliant is closer to a convenient car park and does a killer Roumali Roti, and doesn't hand out service questionnaires!

It really comes down to the type of taste you are after.

The views below are PERSONAL opinions based on personal experience.

Going for Madhus' would suggest budget is not an issue, so you need to decide on the which regional food taste you prefer.

Madhus/Ragamama have more of a contemporary modern fusion with extra care on presentation. More of the south Indian taste. Portion sizes can be limited dependant on menu.

Sapna have more of a traditional taste, providing more taste of the Punjab, with some traditional dishes on offer.

Greenleaf just provide food to fill your gut, a bit hit and miss. Not the best of experience.

Saffron D'or - food was good, but it has changed caterers/management, however we have a family wedding booked there in March, and when having the food tasting session it was quite nice. Reasonable price as well, only downside for me is lack of carpets on the floor, its all tiled.

Personally, I prefer Sapna, they have the traditional taste, and depending on the crowd, the food is what people (aside of the family) will remember the most.

Have your sorted out everything else? like photographer, videographer, cars, etc etc
