hi

whats better? ASR or ESP?

my car has brake assist - and ASR button. But was wondering is ESP better than ASR and what are the differences?

Can I just tack on, how do you know if you have got brake assist??

I think we all have brake assist, certainly on anything 97+ onwards I think. I have never noticed it's operation however.

ESP is ASR + more. ASR only affects driving wheels (rear) ESP can also brake front wheels in order to control stability.

There is a BAS warning light on the left of the cluster that lights up with the ignition that will tell you if you have BAS.

EDIT - the other way is to let go of the throttle and brake quite suddenly, as if you were just about to miss a turn-off. The brake pedal will go very light, will go in further than normal, and the brakes will not come off unless you almost lift your foot off the pedal. It will feel like the pedal is stuck down. You will know.

The difference between ASR and ESP is that ASR controls throttle and rear brakes to prevent wheelspin, whereas ESP does that, plus it has a steering angle sensor. It uses this to deduce what your turning requirements are, then compares this with what is actually happening, and can brake a front wheel to try and help achieve it.
