ASR Problem 1994 SL500

Lately my ASR light has been coming on virtually everytime i take my '94 SL500 out for a drive, it comes on a short while after making the traction cntrol kick in. However the car doesn't go into some sort of limp home mode, or kill the power to the engine, it just turns the ASR lamp on and the car acts as though the ASR is switched off, like on later models, as much fun as it is to have my doing rear wheel spins at lights and the like, its not really ideal. What should i check to see what is in order?

The speed sensor cables and sensors at the wheel hubs.

Wouldn't my ABS light up aswell had the sensors been faulty, which it doesn't. Aren't the two systems linked?

believe it or not - tyre pressures /wear - if the wheels are going round at different speeds it fill fire up the asr...

But the thing is that the ASR light comes on even if i havent even started to drive the car yet. It makes a noticable humming noise for a while and when that stops the ASR light comes on.

isnt there some sort of re-set procedure by turning the wheels from lock to lock?
