Aston Martin pre tax loss

Their range of cars is getting old, but on the plus side the £150m invested last year should yield some new models in a few years time.

What Will said, and what's newsworthy given its history about Aston Martin making a loss? A profit on the other hand...

They're not distinctive enough from each other, i never know which is which without looking at the badge on the boot.

Although their success baffles me, Porsche also suffer the same disease without it affecting their profitability...

Accounts filed at Companies House blame the “market segment [which] has been severely affected by recession” and pinpointed “weakness in European markets and vehicle launches occurring in the fourth quarter”

Yeah, sure.

Nothing to do with the fact the cars are thrown together with inherent faults, QC is run by Stevie Wonder, crap paint finishes, a level of arrogance that makes MB appear like Mother Teresa, warranty not worth the paper it's written on and a rapidly heightening awareness that aside from fabulous looks, they lead on no front with one of the worst levels of customer loyalty (ie once you've had one, you've scratched the itch, but no way would you ever have another) in the high end market.

More of a rant than a discussion - apologies ;)

I will never forget getting one of the first DB9s then the first time it was washed and the paint flying off the boot lid.

Doesn't put me off at all, the new vanquish is stunning.

My pal had a DB9 for a whole 5 days before taking it back to the dealer it came from and reaquiring his TVR Cerbera which by comparison the Aston made the TVR look reliable and well screwed together :D

I'd rather have a 'proper' Vanquish from 10 years ago. I was following an S version out of MB World today and it was stunning. Then he booted it and the noise was epic.

I have also heard bad things from owner friends about the reliability and customer care which is not good enough when you look at the bigger picture. There is no way I would plop 150 into a new one.

Aston axes the cygnet small car . Aston will end production by the end of the year when production began Aston targeted annual sales of 4000 but ended up selling fewer than 150 .

The company has had many owners in its 100 years. William Wilson purchased AM for £1 and two years later it was bankrupt. Some severe ups and downs that will probably never change.

Basically they get funding for a new model or range, they sell some, customers see through the product and go elsewhere.

The cars are very glamorous and have a real sense of occasion but standards need to be raised in accordance with the price!

Hardly surprising they didn't sell many for an overpriced rebadged Toyota.
