Having had a recent Carpal Tunnel Operation and not allowed to drive for what seems the rest of my life, I found myself as most of us do from time to time, musing over various car reviews, and as usually happens, wish lists start to evolve.

Unsurprisingly I found myself drawn to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, in my view a really pretty car, maybe not quite as stunningly beautiful I will concede as the DB9 Volante, but hey V12 Motoring is beyond even my talent for persauding my better half that it was anything other than finacial suicide. :D However I convicend myself that the V8 Vantage could be a real possibility :thumb: (Yeah right, I hear the devil on my right shoulder cry). :(

Anyway buying is one thing, running it is a completely different conversation, so to my question; how do fellow members see the running costs of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage compared to say AMG Or Porsche 911 ownership? In the same ball park or out of sight expensive? Any one know what a standard A- B service is on one?

Sorry for repeat posting

Vantage roadster roof is a bit crude .. the edge of the rear of the roof sits on top of the rear tonneau cover, with an exposed rubber bit.

Looks pretty nasty.

Apart from that, lovely car.

I guess it depends on how much AM charge for labour for similar jobs compared to MB. I would ring you local AM dealer and see what they charge.

As with any high performance car, its going to be expensive at some point in its life and if you have to ask you probably shouldn't buy one! ;)

Annual service is 950 which includes the 113 point check for extended warrenty.
Sting in tail
1300 for annual warrenty which is a must unless you know an Aston inside out is a must.
My advice lovely car looks the dogs dangles and does 12 - 14 mpg if your light footed.
Ok for weekends when sun ishining unless you have shares in BP

How about a DB7?

Old yes, but basically an XJS in a pretty frock.

You can have Carpel Tunnel operations done endoscopically nowadays. The results are comparable with the conventional surgery, but with only a small scar in the crease of your wrist, and right as rain again in a couple of weeks. Depends on the surgeon though.

Well yeah I kinda take your point, but then if you really have no idea, then it makes sense to ask. Imagine how peeved you’d be by passing up something actually you could afford to run! On the other hand for example Ferrari are well know to cost a fortune to service at the Main Dealers, and just about bearable at Ferrari specialists. Same can be said with anything Porsche. Back in 1987-1991 I always had on average a £500 service bill Regardless if it were A or B service. and that was twenty years ago!

On the other hand having run my 32amg for now nigh on 8 years with Main Dealer servicing it, I haven’t yet encountered any catastrophic bills, one for £1200 but that was a B service new disks and pads, and heater regulator, but to be honest all n all it’s been fantastic since sorting all the gremlins in the early days.

Which brings me back to where I ‘m asking the question about Astons. Most people said when I got the 32, Oh an AMG car, that’s going to incur horrible running costs you know, well actually, no not really, and I’ve done 40,000 miles in it now, and it’s a keeper. So now I’m toying with the idea of AM, and how realistic ownership really is. So in view of that, asking the question about running costs is as good a place as anywhere to start and avoid all the sales BS, then take it from there. :);)

Yeah take your point about the roof, the Slk and SL are by far better solutions, but then if you are sat in it, you don't have to look at it ;)

Ouch annual warranty charges sucks, which is a concern, particularly if that is the case if bought from new. You would expect a three year warranty surely, or have I misunderstood here.
Yeah definately a high day and holiday car ;) though I don't do terrific mileage anyway.

also, get a 4.7 litre, the 4.3 is gutless, but with great sound

Always liked the DB7, but as you say XJS in very very pretty drag. Can be bought pretty cheaply these days but then the V12 engine is the killer here.;) Which is why I'm toying with V8 power.

Wish I knew about that before as I've had it done now  Never realised how hot your hand gets all wrapped up in dressings and bandages for three weeks!

I expect I will have to have the other one done so I'll look into it.:thumb:

Take a look at the latest issue of " Octane" which has an article on the AM V8 as a classic car

I love Astons but they are getting very expensive for the best ones, but saying that, an appreciating asset offsets the servicing costs!

Aston fixed price servicing:-

Fixed Price Servicing List

In Aston Martin circles the acknowledged specialist other than the factory is Rikki Cann people drive from all over the country to his place.

Useful stuff thanks for the links :thumb:

The DB7 has a supercharged straight six.

Honest John on the DB7

Sounds like the running costs are sensible.

Aston Martin DB7 V12 Vantage Auto was the only DB7 i'd thought of, I never even considered the striaght six models, don't ask why:dk: I'll Have to re examine and do some research :thumb:

DB7 Vantage has a 6.0 V12

We have a DB7 Vantage Volante on the company fleet that I sometimes get to play with.

Hi Mark, and your thoughts of said machine? Horrible on fuel would be my first guess ? Reliable??
