I paid £100 not too long ago :(

Given the current price of refrigerant, it's an unbelievable price. That's either at or below cost.

What does R134a cost these days in England? I just bought a 30lbs jug for $110 here in Texas.

A 12kg bottle is £360 at the moment. Given that many mercedes take up to a kg of gas the price above is a loss leader. That’s without cost of labour, machine and maintenance of that machine accounted for.
I got some bottles at £300 last week on “special offer.”

It’s because 134 is being phased out and will be replaced by a vegan alternative.

Thanks for that info Jay, have just booked an anti- bac and regass via Groupon as had not realised the cost these days. Not for my Merc which is fine but for our old RAV4 which I suspect has not been regassed since it was new

If for any reason it wont hold the gas or leaks out . They give you your money back . They wont fix it.

I am well aware of this , it is working except that it is not a cold as it should be . Had it not been working I would have taken it to a good local refrigeration specialist

Guys, I don't understand this whole re-gas thing that everyone on UK forums seems to keep talking about. Freon is not a consumable gas. If for whatever reason you ever need to 're gas' your system, it means that you have a leak. It's a sealed system. If your system is not cooling as well as it should. It's probably low on freon which means that it has a leak. Probably from dry o-rings if you decide to drive with the econ button turned on during the winter. Before you go there, clean out with condenser (a toothbrush and some mild degreaser, then hose it down) and replace your cabin filter. If they're caked up with dirt, you're not transferring heat.

Just got my W124 cabriolet booked in. Only had it a couple of months and not sure if it has a fault so nothing to lose as it's not currently working.

Unfortunately in reality, as cars move around, the seals will let a tiny amount of gas escape over time. Hence an A/C service is recommended annually to keep level of gas and oils correct.
As cars get older and the seals and other parts become less effective, more gas will leak out.

Try taking your fridge down the M1 every day. Wont work for long.

Just come back from having my wife's Rav done at ATS and it is definitely pushing cooler air out now when aircon is on cold. Very happy with the result and at least now I know that the system has no leaks

Mine (my C270) has never been properly cold. Dealer looked at it years ago and said it was fine. Got them to recharge it and it was exactly the same.

Indie has recharged it once then last summer decided the condenser was leaking. He changed that - same. It seems to just about cope, like it's somehow adjusting based on outside temp, but it was very marginal in last year's hot weather.

Whilst we are on the subject, is it worth even considering used condensers? Strongly suspect it's the condenser on my S211 and new ones are pretty expensive :(

A new Nissens condenser with dryer is £80.... £72 with cashback!
What year is the car?

I've had cars like that.

I recall that it's more likely where the car has climate control rather than air con.

In my case, it wasn't broken it was just the way that it works in auto mode.

I'm not sure what else to say except that this is not correct. I live in Texas where it hits 44 degrees C in the summer and have owned cars 10 years without charging the a/c. It's not a consumable gas. If it leaks, you have a leak.

That's because it's a fridge and not a car. You might as well be comparing a donkey to a chimney
