I took part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire on Sunday and the 1st stop was at (I think) USAF Alconbury. It’s a disused airbase and full of many different types of businesses, one of them is obviously an Audi dealer.
I’ve never seen so many Audi’s just sitting there, 1000s of them. Most of them still had their protection on them and loads of them had 18 & 19 registrations.
What’s going on here? They surely cannot be customers cars because they wouldn’t be sitting there depreciating if they were.

Pre registered cars = world's best sales figures = more sales.

+ a hint of Brexit is making the German economy wobble so maybe the actual real sales of German cars are not forthcoming ?

Sometimes when you look on main dealers websites they have cars which are available much quicker than they otherwise would be.

So I guess this is a touch of volume manufacturing!

So the manufacturers are churning out vehicles by the thousands only to have them sitting in a field with no buyers?

    I never knew.
I just heard on the news that Ford are closing their engine plant in South Wales. Could this be because (if they are anything like Audi) they are a actually building too many cars in the first place?

It may be that they can't be sold due to changes in the emissions regulations/type-approval.. But yes, been like that for decades.

My understanding was they also produce a lot of cars, keep them stored so that prices on the forecourt are kept artificially strong and then they are drip-fed back onto the market later on.

Terrible waste of cars which are just sat there.

Stock cars! I bought a 19 plate Audi with 25 miles on the clock last month. I wanted a specific model A6 Avant and there were over 100 in stock in every colour. I chose mine and it was ready for pick up five days later with a 31% discount off list price.

Well, there's an awful lot of cars parked on the runway at RAF Alconbury:

Brings back memories, 50 years ago, my first job out of Tech College. Chainboy for a survey company from Wales checking the levels on the main runway.
USAF airbase then, flying Phantoms. The only cars I remember seeing there were mainly Ford Mustangs.
