The radio ariel on my w210 is incorporated within the heated rear window system, which works fine on radio 2  or any other station untill you switch on the rear window element to clear it of condensation etc, and then the interferance caused makes listening impossible. Is there a solution to this problem or should I fit another ariel, which I must admit I,m not keen to do. I know I could just listen to the cd player for a while, but not nice if my son taken out mine and just left his killswitch  cd's in it.

I find it unlikely that Benz would have released this model with this kind of problem already from start of production. From other vehicles with heater elements on the inside surface of the glass, noise has been generated when there has been small gaps or scratches in them.

Ahhh.. that could be the problem then, a couple of the lines in the heater element on the back window are not working. Will get the soldering iron out and see if it makes a difference :D
Thanks

There are aerial amps around the windscreen at each corner. If you dont have TV only one is there, I think its top left (passenger side on UK car), maybee bottom left.
If the earth or connections on that is dirty/poor then you could get noise, may be worth disconnecting it, cleaning the connectors and the bolt and bolting it back again .

But mostly its scratched windscreen that needs a new rear window :-( There is a way to check that involving a headlamp (55w) bulb in series with the rear window screen - no noise when thats there means new windscreen

Hope you have comprehensive insurance and can persuade autoglass to replace it - at least it won't be silly money then ..

Cheers
