Hi. I've just bought a 2012 A160 which has the Audio 20. I can connect my phone to bluetooth for calls but not to play music and as the aux in port is very quiet this is quite annoying. I contacted my local dealership and was told by one person that I would definitely be able to connect for audio but then when I went there yesterday I was told that it wasn't possible and I wouldn't even be able to add a separate bluetooth connection to do it. Can anyone please confirm if this is correct?

I have audio 20 in my c class which connects like this: ( Make sure BT is on, on your phone) In the car choose media, then options, then search, it should find your phone, choose your phone, then open BT menu on phone and switch on "media audio" (you may have to slide the switch once or twice before it connects) Your music should then play through the car audio. My phone is an S7 edge

It depends on the version of Audio20.

The NTG4.5 Audio20 definitely supports music streaming over BT. I had it in my 2013 W204.

The previous model NTG4 Audio20 might not support streaming over BT - but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks. This is what I was told initially by the dealership but I don't have a 'media' button and I think that may be the problem?

Thanks. How do I tell which model it is?

2012 was a model change year for the A-Class, with the third-generation model (code name W176) replacing the second-generation model (W169).

The outgoing W169 of 2012 was equipped with the older NTG2.5 unit, which only supports voice calls over BT, but not audio streaming.

The newer W176 was equipped with NTG4.5, which supports both BT voice calls and BT Audio streaming.

In terms of identifying the model, the older NTG2.5 unit has the display screen integrated into the audio unit, while the NTG4.5 has a separate display screen that is 'stuck' on top of the dashboard ('iPad' style).

You can also check your car's VIN, the first three digits will be the model code number, i.e. '169' or '176'.

If your car is the older model that does not support BT streaming, then it may have been fitted with some sort of 'iPod kit' or other type of media adapter (check the glove box for any media ports), in which you will need to source the correct MB media cable and then connect your phone for streaming via cable.

Alternatively you could buy one of these FM transmitera:

TuneCast® In-Car 3.5mm to FM Transmitter

(Make sure you choose the correct connector for the phone).

Thanks for your help. Mine has the screen integrated so I guess that means there's no possibility of using bluetooth for music and I'll have to use the aux in and a cable.

You can add a [powered] 3.5mm jack to bluetooth adapter and it will work fine - I had that, before I replaced the head unit with an android aftermarket one.

You can also fit a 3.5mm-->USB adapter (must be powered too) - again, had that working (not at the same time as bluetooth), before I added a bit of 21st century tech to the car ;)
