I have a 2005 W211 and currently it got an audio 20 and no sat nav, what do I look for to ensure MB sat nav can be installed satisfactorily.

I tried to buy a front loaded DVD the other day, the guy told me it won't fit my car. He said I should be looking for one rear(boot) loaded.

There is no Audio 50 Comand. You must currently have an Audio 20 CD head unit (instead of an Audio 20 CC unit), Audio 50 APS and Comand APS would give you navigation but the retrofit would include the installation of an AGW, rewiring the speakers (AGW would have the audio amp that appears at the front with the Audio 20 CD) and a navi processor with the Comand APS option.

There are several threads about the more recent NTG2.5 Comand unit that should be even simpler to install and has more features all integrated to the head unit. Retrofitting needs some expertise as this device was not intended for older models (mainly if adaptations are needed and the unit cannot be reached from the diagnostics port).

I agree with diesel Benz here.

The correct unit for your car (DVD Comand) does involve some work running a loom from the front to the back of the car. There are a number of parts required to fit Comand to a W211. If you can, go for the newer NTG2.5 unit. It is a lot better and easier to install. It will probably work out cheaper too.

I made the mistake to say there is no sat nav, it got one but a Traffic Master TMC but not subscribed. There is a mic and a TMC button, can I make use of this by upgrading to say an audio 50 or a hard disk MB sat nav?
