Hi Guys,

I have a problem with the audio system in my car. The whole thing is 100% factory fitted now. The problem is that, when it rains the "reset fuse" in the engine bay for the cd player keeps tripping out which causes the radio to carry on playing but the controls become unresponsive from the actual stereo and from the steering wheel. At this point on the display in the speedo it says "- - - -" instead of the name of the radio station or the cd track number. Also at this point when I turn the car off and pull out the key the radio continues playing, even when i close the door. Eventually it stops playing but the display on the headunit itself still stays stuck on whatever it said when the problem started. To make things normal again I have to simply unplug the 10 amp fuse in the fusebox in the bonnet and plug it back in. I'm guessing that the rain water is getting somewhere and tripping it out so does that meaan an earth wire is loose or something?

Thanks in advance guys,
Zishan

Hi Guys,
The whole thing is 100% factory fitted now.
What do you mean by that. Was it supplied that way, or did you retrofit it

How do you know its the CD player fuse

What do you mean by a 'reset fuse'

When was your car made, and is it the facelifted C class ?

I recall that the stereo is powered from the rear fusebox on newer cars

It sounds like the head unit is stopping talking on the CANbus, it uses the CANbus to talk to the instrument cluster, and for it to know when the ignition is turned off, etc.

Is anything else failing when it rains?

Factory fitted meaning that I had a sub and amp fitted which were working from a converter of the speaker wires but I completely removed that and the problem has been there since before this anyway. The cd player (audio 10) was factory fitted so basically I am saying I have not interfered with what would be the cars factory set-up.

Television: The car is a 2002 C-class coupe, pre-facelift so it is still the old 2 litre engine.

Also, nothing else fails when it rains and by reset fuse i mean a fuse that does not blow but just un-hinges itself so that when you dis-connect it and re-connect it the contact is made again.

I cant see any moisture in there at all but an interesting thing happened. I was filling up the washer fluid resevoir when a bit slashed out of the nozzle and landed on the earthing screw near by. When I went back into my car, the problem was there again!!!
