AUSTRIAN Grand Prix

Toto says whatever the team dictates and the sponsors love wining and exposure. They're not into personal likes or dislikes.

Mercedes aren't so nationalistic they would jeopardise success by letting Lewis go, at great cost.

Sponsors arent prepared to put up with people that don't attend their corporate sponsorship obligations this is a BIG issue at the moment. I still don't think Lewis will be with MB next year even if he wins the title. Remember where you saw it first.

Just a feeling - nothing concrete I could my finger on - but merely left with the impression that since Hamilton won last year in a Mercedes car [ arguably the magic driving seat to championship glory due to technical susperiority- when it works! ] the Mercedes hierarchy would be happier if the title went to Rosberg this year? Rational being [ probably not stated but hinted at ] - we gave you a winning car last year - how about letting Nico win this year?

Great to see Manor getting some just reward with Pascal Wehrlein finishing 10th, I believe he is contracted to MB?

PW did say Toto would be happy...

It's business, personalities don't carry much weight. Whoever is the best candidate to win gets the backing

I wasn't totally convinced it was Nico's fault at first but on watching the subsequent footage he just drove straight on at that corner, no attempt at going round, totally his fault a fact confirmed by the stewards, as C4 commentators said he got of with a light punishment.

Yes, Nico got away very lightly:eek: No lost points and a reprimand!
The only thing the stewards did do was confirm blame, just maybe that will be a bigger penalty going forward:dk:
Toto has a tougher job than ever now!

He tried to run Lewis off the road, or that is what it looked like after watching replays. Like many, initially thought Lewis was at fault but the replays put pay to that.

Got his cumuppance.

It became very clear this weekend that the team are favouring Rosberg. Pitting Hamilton too late, slowing his stops and then blaming Hamilton for the collision. I hope Hamilton doesn't leave Mercedes because Rosberg doesn't ever deserve to win the WDC.

Did anyone see the video Rosberg posted last night while on his private jet? He still thinks he is blameless. Clueless more like.

I lost all respect for Mercedes this weekend.

No driver should be bigger than the team. Mercedes need to stamp their authority on the situation and bang both their heads together. Their have lost points and a lot more due to the incident. I think Rosberg was in the wrong in this case but they are both as bad as each other on other occassions. Stupid behaviour and dangerous. The incident could have caused a much worse crash for them or others. Maybe they should consider more serious punishment that affects the drivers or the teams more. A one race ban for Mercedes should help!

Toto Wolf under fire this morning from his fellow directors and head of sponsors for not reigning Hamilton in. They now saying the situation is unatenable and cannot be allowed to carry on. The Mercedes team clearly blame Hamilton for yesterdays incident (rightly or wrongly) be interesting to see where this goes but from here in I doubt the team will be doing him any favours.

If Toto and his pitwall team weren't so inept then the 2 cars would not even have been on the same piece of tarmac.

As for the Mercedes team blaming Hamilton - laughable! If they really want to get rid of Lewis maybe he should screw as much £ out of them as possible and then move to a team where he is appreciated. Mercedes won't be top dogs forever and Lewis is just the man to embarrass them in a Red Bull/Maclaren/Ferrari.

Meanwhile the rules of "racing" still apply.

It is for the car behind to safely pass the car in front with the car in front allowed at least one move to defend his position.

With less than a lap left to a guaranteed 1/2 finish! LH did not safely pass his team mate and indeed did not have to pass his team mate. NR is stating that he defended his position and in doing so LH turned into him when he had a very clear choice to avoid doing so. LH also says " I knew he was there but I could not see him" he then turned in expecting NR to concede both the corner and the race. Really? Would LH have conceded? Clearly we can see he would not and like NR did he would and has claimed "he had the lead"
History tells us that we will now see Toto bring in team orders. He has no choice.

The stewards, who interpret and enforce the rules of racing, saw it differently...

Having won championships LH knows they aren't won by finishing behind the guy leading the championship. He had to pass. It's what he's paid to do - win championships.

LH when NR hit him had his wheels on the outer white line and NR had easily the width of a car between LH's inside and the apex .LH was ahead as they approached the turn. NR knew also that his tyres were in less good shape than LH's.
NR's behaviour smacks of brain fade. The same brain fade that caused him to pull over on LH in Spain when he lost power due to the wrong engine mode.
NR's idea of defensive driving comprises driving the competitor off the track. That is twice he has done it to LH this season. And some think NR deserves his seat more than LH!

I think you will find he is paid to win the team the constructors championship. The individual championship is a bonus and they are pretty much guaranteed that one of their drivers will win that.

Hence why Toto was so livid, the incident could have put both cars out putting at risk the primary objective of the team.

Got to admit though, it makes a great spectacle

Two drivers racing (heaven forbid)

Mr Hunt, Mr Prost, Mr Senna, Mr Schumacher, even our Nige would have and did go for it in those cases (and do an NR and run competitors to the edge of the track)

This is what we pay for

Even the Mrs who came in with 3 laps to go was on the edge of her seat..... How many times has any of us been on the edge of our seat watching F1 in the last season or so?

Right or wrong, it's right for F1

Indeed Schumacher won his first championship by running Hill off the track...deliberately.
