Hey guys sorry if this has been asked before .

My car is a w210 e320 cdi with the 5 speed tiptronic box .

I checked the fluid level today and it is full and correct , But the colour of the fluid was a yellow colour:eek: .

I got a bottle of fluid from the main dealers the other day just incase i needed some and the fluid that they gave me was pink colour .

The fluid was changed by mercedes themselves last time so they have put the yellow fluid in it .

So my question is what is the right fluid to put in ?

I just hope whatever this yellow fluid they have put in hasnt done any damage because its been in there over a year now!

The fluid goes yellow almost immediatly after afluid change. It goes green after 50k.

The pink stuff is what you need. 000 989 21 03 10

thanks

come to think of it it was a greeny yellowy colour . So what your saying is that you buy it pink and pour it in pink ,then after a while it turns yellow then green ?

Yep.

When it goes green it is over due a change. After green it goes black/brown. After black/brown.......

Its normally dead.

thanks

cool thanks man :thumb: Thats some freaky stuff its like a traffic light changing green to tell you its " go " time for a change:p Now i can rest easy and youve saved the poor mercedes parts man from being shouted at for me thinking he'd given me the wrong stuff !:D

Thanks very much :thumb:

My e300d stays a pink colour all the time - been changed every 36k miles from new. Do they turn a different colour if the change is overdue and then it is impossible to keep it pink after that?

i am a bit confused now.

i have 2000 facelift e240 avantg with 5speed tiptronic box. i thought all post 2000 gearboxex were sealed for life, i.e. maintenance free. and i have also read a few post describing how to change the atx fluid (from filter under box and then from coolant pipes).

whats what?

my auto box is abit slow changing up first thing inthe morning, sometimes reaching 3000rpm before changing. BUT only when starting from cold. clears up after 1 or 2 stop/ starts. car has full service history and 140k miles.

suggestions, comments

Mercedes said they were sealed for life and maintenance free, but I am sure many others on here will agree that a gearbox oil change is neccessary. I just had a trans fluid change on a 01 E220 CDI done 77000mls and the ex Mercedes technician who changed it (MB Technician on here) said it is important that the oil should be changed.

You may have to get someone else to confirm this but with regard to your box not changing when cold until 3000rpm, isnt that something to do with the catalyst warm up 2nd gear hold?

Regards,

Terry.

Having just read a couple of C-Class manuals cover-to-cover whilst considering a purchase, I noticed mention of later up-changes when the engine is cold. Many modern and modern-ish autos are programmed to do this, as the engine produces lower power at any given revs until warm or getting warm, and will pull lazily at the rpm of regular change points.

As also mentioned, helps the cat. warm better too.
