I have seen the facelift W202's lock the doors automatically before you drive off,Does anyone know if this a possible mod to do on the prefacelift cars? Im thinking it may just need reprograming somewhere!

On my C180, they seem to lock when you hit around 10mph I think! I miss that feature on my W140 - would be great if it could be programmed in...

Do you have the anti-hijack button on the centre console near the hazard warning switch?

If yes then, hold the button in the "lock" position for 10 sec to enable auto locking, or hold in the "unlock" position for 10 sec to disable it

Hope this helps

We have it on our '98 S280 so it should be available on yours.

It took me a while to figure that statement out :) I'm now going to get the wife to see if it works ;)

Just tried to enable this using the advice in the other post (i.e. holding down the central locking button for 10 secs.. if I understood it right...) and it didnt seem to work for me :(

Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Any info in your manual? That is where I got my info from and it worked.

Maybe the S class has different settings or something...

Do BAS, traction control and ABS all work in reverse too? :)

Don't know about BAS, but 'treble' and 'volume' does. :)

Works a charm on my S210 E320 CDI! Thanks loads for this :)

On another note - the last merc I drove (a new C class) before buying my car had a feature where if you indicate "gently" in a direction (without pushing the indicator all the way), it gives like 3 flashes of the indicator and turns off. Great for fast motorway lane changes and the like (well OK I know you don't have to indicate when there's no-one else on the road, but it doesn't hurt to flash!

Any idea how to turn this on?

Sorry Simon :D :D
After a few flashes it might be a 'Turn on' ;)

Had a trip to the dealers today about this quest of mine, They say it cant be done :( as its not part of the system on my car.It was only fitted to cars with certain remote keyfobs,I think he was trying to tell me the facelift cars. He referred to my key as the "dash 2" with the flip key where as the facelift key is the "dash 3" But at least I did get a tour of the service bays and a look around some of the new cars in the showroom :bannana:

My admiration for your 'DIY' increases with every post I read. Am I right in thinking that the engagement of the central locking is controlled by electronic chips (Or mini type onboard computer) I am asking from a point of 'ignorance' and would appreciate your opinion.

What will be your next project on this very nice car?

Kind regards,
John

I would imagine its controlled by some sort of electronic chip,At a guess useing a signal from the speed pulse then activating the central locking module at above 5mph.It wont have all the functionality of the facelift car like global locking or just opening the drivers door leaving all the rest locked tho,cus on the facelift car the remote is different (3 buttons) as opposed to my 1 button.

Next mod, well I tried to get them to get to do me a list of part numbers to retro fit cruise control but he wasn't prepared to spend 20 mins looking or didn't have time to look,as he just spent 15mins showing me around.

A customer of mine has fitted this to all of his cars, including a '85 500 SEC,
I'll see if i can get some info from him for ya...

Cheers Ricky, that would be great :D
