I wondered if anyone could help
I have a W203 and the Auto headlamps are not working The lights work but will not switch when the switch is on Auto and it gets dark
Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a sensor issue - unless there is something that needs to be re-coded ... has the auto function suddenly stopped working ? If the car has had a new windscreen, something may have been disturbed when it was changed - can't think of anything else.

Thanks for that
I am not sure if it worked before i have only recently got the car
Where is the sensor located?

Its a module attached to the windscreen just behind the rear view mirror.

It is quite possible that it has been switched off in the settings menu by previous owner.

Hello Mike, as you know my father was the original owner, so I spoke to him and here's his reply. I hope this helps.

The auto lights feature has to be turned on. I turned it off as I found it a bit too sensitive with the lights coming on and off whenever you went in and out of shade. People thought I was flashing them. I can’t remember exactly the sequence to turn back on but it its in the general settings menu accessed from the steering wheel buttons. You then leave the headlight control knob in “auto”.

I set the lights to be “on” all the time when the light switch was set to Auto. I am sure this is all in the owner’s handbook.
