auto jumps in2 n

1st mb hav always had bmw and hav been impresssd so far till past few days. foot down and jumped in2 n but still showing d on dash. stopped at road side shifted 2 n and then in2 d and off we go.it a c class 2006 any ideas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Possibly the engine mounts causing the gear selector link to be too tight.
 
1 take it to MB to have the fluid level check, this is the MOST LIKELY cause. Don't be put off by MB prices, my level check was about £15 the first time and the second they did it for free.

2 If you are paranoid about life of the box get a decent garage to change the ATF, but beware that they know exactly what they're doing

3 Step 1 will 99.9999% fix most issues like this.

My SL did that occasionally when the gearbox electronic plate was on the way out. This is a known issue with the 5-speed box, but relatively cheap to have fixed.

As above I would get the gearbox fluid level checked first. If it's not that then get the fault codes read to see if that gives a clue.
