I got my 2007 E280 cdi Sport 124k, 3 weeks ago. It did drive fine on the test drive but im not sure if this has been happening with the previous owner.

Sometimes the auto box does not kick down and the car has very little power. There is no warning lights of any kind on my dash. One of the times i tried to put my foot down, the engine jerked really badly, it kinda reminded me of my Audi TT many years ago when it had a bad MAF sensor.

Could the maf be the problem and is it likely to stop the gearbox kicking down?

Can be many things. Why not run Star diagnostics and narrow down the posibilities.

My car use to jerk quite violently and then the car wouldn't rev over 3000k with no power ie. Limp mode car never put eml on it turned out that my turbo actuator was at fault. I had it recondition by premier diesel in Leicester the offer a postal service which suited me as I live in n.Ireland very reasonable in terms of price

cheers for the replies guys. i have no EML. I have researched a lot and im thinking its the MAF that is faulty, so i have started a new thread looking for help in cleaning the MAF. CHeers

I had no eml either it just went into limp mode

how did you know it was the actuator did you get a diagnostic done?

When i unplug my 2 maf sensors my car goes much faster and smoother, so that points to the sensors, im not sure if that is 100% accurate though. ;)

No never got star done but my symptoms were same as other members who confirmed actuator was at fault, I've mine back from being refurbished and seems to be ok now it was 79.99 with 2 yr warranty, they confirmed that motor and pcb board were faulty so they replaced them, fingers crossed that was my problem but went with cheaper option first

Thats a good price indeed. At the moment my jerky acceleration is few and far between. I will see how it behaves over the coming weeks. I have cleaned my maf sensors for now and ill get a diagnostic done as i want to find out if there is anything wrong from a diagnostic point of view.
