FINALLY GOT ROUND TO CHANGING THE OIL THE GEARBOX THIS MORNING, 722.6 TYPE TRANSMISSION, HAVE ENCOUNTERED TWO UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS, ONE THERE IS NO DRAIN PLUG ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER, SO I'LL HAVE TO RUN THE CAR AND CHANGE AGAIN, SECOND ONE SCREW SNAPPED OFF ON THE SUMP RETAINING LUG DUE TO CORROSION ON THE SCREW IN THE ALLY LUG EVETUALLY MANAGED TO FREE THE LUG WITH SOME GENTLE PURSUASION AND THE REST OF THE SCREW CAME OUT EASILY ALL BACK TOGETHER NOW WITH SOME DECENT QUALITY SCREWS AND COPPER GREASE WHERE THE BOLTS GO THROUGH THE LUGS ALSO PUT A SMALL DROP OF LOCTITE ON TO PREVENT LOOSENING AS THE ORIGINALS LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD SOME THREAD LOCKING COMPOUND ON. i'VE ALSO FITTED A NEW CRANK PULLEY SEAL AS IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS LEAKING, THE RETAINING BOLT WAS F TIGHT, NOW I'M WAITING FOR THE SEAL TO "SET" AS IT IS A PTFE TYPE WHICH REQUIRES 4HRS AFTER FITTING BEFORE RUNNING ENGINE THIS TYPE IF SEAL ALSO IS FITTED DRY! tHERE WAS NO WEAR ONTHE PULLEY TO SPEAK OF. jUST THOUGHT I'D SHARE MY EXPERIENCE WHILST I'M WAITING.

Good man!

There is a lot of satisfaction to be had from knowing that you have done the job properly.

Enjoy your weekend!

A good job done.

One more job is to fix your caps lock key, it appears to be stuck on.;)

Hi Glen,

I spent ages last Saturday morning looking for the drain plug in the torque converter, only to come to the same conclusion as you.

I had an oil leak in the box, and after a while it would slip out of gear whilst stationary. When I removed the sump plug, 2l of oil came out, so I thought as a start, I would replace the same amount and then insert my shiny new dipstick (A 140 589 15 21 00 ).

To my horror, it read above Max! I thought that cant be right, and drove the car home. Guess what happened at the first set of lights - yep, slipped out of gear. I put another 1/2l of oil in when I got home, and its been OK since. Ive got the same box as you in my 1999 clk320. What is the part number on your dipstick. Have I got the right one me thinks:confused:
