Autodipping Rearview Mirror

The autodipping rearview mirror on my pre-facelift W203 has just been replaced under warranty (it rattled).

The new one is different. It has what looks like a sensor about 25mm diameter on the part which attaches to the roof and an orange LED underneath the mirror itself, which lights up when I turn the key.

Can anyone tell me what these are for?

The led is ambiant lighting for the centre console,The other I reckon is the phone mic.

Well, if they put the one in with the phone microphone, its going to save you a lot of money if you want to retrofit the integrated phone kit and make it like it was manafactured with it !! Thats rather nice of them (or a **** up in the parts department ;-))

i think the orange led has to do do with garage remote opening buttons, (it blinks when you press the buttons) and not with background lighting.. at least in my mirror. I do not think that there is a w203 with background lighting in the mirror.

Maybe I am wrong. What year is your car? can you post a photo of your mirror?

I think i know what your getting at . Ive got the facelift mirror with integrated telephone.

The mirror that was described was the prefacelift one with the mic on the collar of the mirror rather than the 4 mics on the base of the mirror with the Background lighting.
