As a thank you for you guys getting me into 'detailing' (hate the term too American), and taking some time to work out which products would work well together without spending a fortune, I thought I would post pictures comparing :

  • Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine
  • V
  • Chemical Guys Wet Mirror Finish & Chemical Guys - XXX Hardcore Paste Wax
I have always liked Autoglym but now I can see there is life outside of products you can buy at Halfords.

The car has been clayed. AutoGlym used about a month before the Chemical Guys stuff was used.

I have found (like many others) that AutoGlym is very good, but the effect does not last long. Thus I poped onto Cleanyourcar.co.uk and ordered the above Chemical Guys products and Poorboys Wheel Sealant.

The glaze goes on first are really does make the car look wet, with the XXX Wax on top to seal it. Both products go on well, no white residue and the finish really lasts. I recomend it, even though it need two 'waxings' the results speak for themselves.

In short the shine from the Chemical Guys is deeper than AutoGlym Ultra DS, and the finish lasts so much longer, plus next time you wash the car you really feel how slick the car is.

(Pics are taken with different camera's, but the idea is to compare the shine).

Chemical Guys Shine (much better camera I know, but I am sure you can see past that) :

^haha!

Looks good...I've always said there's more to car cleaning and protecting than halfords.

I JUST went to roadrage/Incidents to look for a thread with a similar title! Looks like a bog standard fleet R124 380/400/420.

I might try that Chem guys stuff, although I can't complain about the 3 stage Meguires really.

Wash + Wax with either Simoniz Advanced wash or Meguiars Gold class

Dry with chamois

T-cut any scratches

Clay

1st- stage 3 Meguiars

2nd- Meguiars NXT Tech wax

3rd- (Only every 2-3 months) Poorboys Nattys paste wax.

Thats my car clean routine...for anyone who's interested

My car routine,

Wash with Zymol car shampoo
Dry with a nice towel I can smuggle out of the house past the wife

Clay with Megauirs
One coat of Car-lack all in one polish
One coat of Car-lack Sealent

Do this every 5-6 months

T-Cut.......waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I have been washing with Megs gold class and microfibre mitt.

Drying with waffle weave microfibre cloth.

Not clayed it yet due to much newness I didn't think it needed it.

Poorboys professional polish.

Wolfgang sealant.

Dodojuice purple haze wax. (This is fantastic stuff easy on/easy off).

Looks amazing and as has been mentioned you really can tell the difference when you wash the car again.

I usually do all this at GFs house and all her neighbours think i'm mad. If you really want mad take a look at www.detailingworld.co.uk some incredible sights on there. £7k pot of wax anyone?

I don't use my MB much and I last fully washed it between Xmas and New Year.

I do clean the lights, windows and wheels now and again, and clean off any bird muck (although it's allegedly 'StarShield' treated and the bird muck doesn't seem to mark the paint). The recent rain has washed a lot of the dust off it!

Thanks for this - I've only ever used Autoglym stuff - Ultra Deep Shine then sealant glaze - and the results please me. But I must try Chemical Guys.

T Cut aaaaaaaaaaaaa...I agree, Meguiars Scratch X better in every way and available at Hellfrauds too.

My big detailing routine is; yawn for those uninterested:rolleyes:

Pre wash spray with Citrus de-greaser
Karcher rinse down
Foam with an Autobrite foam lance with super snow foam and CG Maxi Suds II
Wait for dirt to slide off the highly waxed paintwork to avoid 'marring' the paint
Two buckets method with Grit Guard using Shmitts (high technology sponges)
Rinse down and dry with Poorboys waffle weave microfibre towels. Chamois leather and regular cotton terry or 'house' towels WILL scratch your paintwork.
Clay with Sonus Green if needed. Rinse and dry again.
Use Porter Cable polisher with Menzerna Pro polishes to the desired level of paintwork correction
Cleanse paintwork with Klasse All in One and seal with Klasse Sealant Glaze x3
Top with 2 coats of wax 24 hours between coats, Collinite 476s for the winter and presently Chemical Guys 50/50 limited edition wax or Victoria Collectors.

....then drag my sorry worn out ass back indoors for a staming pot of Kasha:eek: wake up next morning to find a slight drizzle and beautiful beading onher body:eek::eek:

Seriously though this is a once a year routine to maintain I wax every 3 months and wash every week/fortnight with the foam gun and 2 buckets etc.

The result my friends is this:-

Not bad for silver:p

Oh and Avantgarde owners especially, do not forget to polish all the chrome with Meguiars metal polysh (not a spelling mistake) it makes a HUGE difference

Remember grille, stars, wheel centre caps and all chrome on rubbing strip trims.

Wow guys nice detailing work there :bannana:

T-Cut is fine for use by hand so long as you have a milder polish to use afterwards. What you do need to remember is that it isn't a diminishing abrasive like the polishes you use with buffers.

I've just ordered a load more stuff from Elite Car Care - Sonus green clay, Snow Foam, Meguiars Last Touch etc. When the paint is scratch free you can't beat HD Cleanse and Glasur on a Porsche though!

Stats when I get a Porsche, I'll splash out on Zymol or Swissvax, at the moment having spent over a £1000 on detailing products since Jan 07:eek::eek: the cashpoint is firmly closed:mad:

Great finish on the 996 though:rock::rock:
