Hello everyone,

I am a new member of the MBclub, so first in insist on thanking all the administrators, members and everyone who contributes to help the MB owners resolve their car issues. so thank you everyone.

I do have myself an issue with my gear shifter (i think).

I hear a clapping noise if i may describe it as so exactly under the central console and precisely i do hear it under the gear shifter, the noise stops when i go over 70km/h and also stops when i stop the car, so here is what i have tried if this can help:

i put the shifter in "N" neutral position and accelerated: no noise.
when driving, at 50km/h, i moved the gearshifter to the "N" position and let the car continue running in neutral: the noise continues untill the car decelerates and stops then the noise stops. im really confused and also scared it might be the automatic gearbox issue.

could you provide any help please? Thank you so much

Possibly the handbrake cable rubbing on the propshaft - the clips have been known to break.
Fix is to ty-rap the cable so it can't move.
