Ml270
Hi - I'm looking for some help with my 2000 plate ML270.
On kick down - if the throttle is fully depressed, it sometimes hits a false neutral, sometimes it drops down to 3rd and doesn't change back and less often works fine. it seems worse when towing. If I do a gentler kick down its fine, and using the tiptronic controls is always fine. Mileage is about 130k. I would be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction, it's a fantastic tow car and I don't want to go back to discos and shoguns. Cheers

Hello and welcome. When was the ATF last changed?

Either low fluid or the gearbox is knackered.

Cheers for the replies - bought a dipstick from eBay - I will check the level.

I have checked the level and it seems fine (but its not that easy to check as it smears oil up the dip stick as you pull it out).
I have noticed a couple of things:
1. Its doing it less now its winter - and the ngine temp is lower
2. It also is more prone to hitting the neutral when towing

I might get it booked in for a gearbox oil change??

Or get the codes read. What kind of dipstick do you have? Have you a link of where you bought it?

Changing the oil will mask a mechanical gearbox issue if it has one.

That's the one you should have got.
