Can anybody help? I drive a 2014 auto c250cdi coupe. I’ve noticed a few times when I turn a corner it feels like I am stepping down a gear and the car pulls. When snow came a few weeks ago the car was totally controllable. Today the engine management light has come on and no garages open. It’s recently been serviced and only has 48000 on the clock. I am nervous about driving and have to work on Tuesday ! Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say that at the very least you'll need to get the fault codes read... though the EML may be unrelated and also possibly a minor issue.

If the garages are closed, see if you can order online an iCarsoft MB v2.0 for quick delivery, e.g. from Amazon, it won't fix the problem but it will potentially allow you to know what the issue is.

I say 'potentially' because reading the fault codes is only the first step in diagnosing a fault, and some are easier to diagnose than others.

Do you have Mobilo or another breakdown service?

Another thought is that if the car was serviced by an MB dealer less than 12 months ago, then it would be covered by Mobilo roadside assistance, so if you are concerned about driving the car, you could check with them to see if they will come out and check what's wrong with it.

EDIT: Just saw whitenemesis' post

I do have breakdown cover but it hasn’t actually broken down, it is still very drivable but I need it fixed for work!

The point is that if you have concerns regarding whether the car should perhaps not be driven, then you can contact the roadside assistance service for advice.

Either way, without getting the faul codes read, it isn't possible to say what is causing the EML.

I didn’t take it to a MB dealer! It’s driveable but am concerned.

Ring them and say you have an engine warning light on and you’re anxious about driving it as you don’t want to cause any damage.

they’ll send out a patrol who can scan the cars computer for fault codes

Welcome calling the breakdown service is the way to go given the time of year,as posted just say it has the EML up and you are afraid the car will be damaged if you drive it.

Well I obviously don’t have very good cover, only breakdown recovery and no diagnostics! That’s with emergency assist.

Sounds like a keeper with that mileage .

As above , with such a car , for now and the future .

If it is just an orange EML, you are probably ok to use it.
Not ideal but if it's a necessity then it shouldn't do any major damage. Drive slowly and minimise the distance. Of course, get it looked at as soon as possible.

If your breakdown service provide can’t help you then it’s best to get it along to a garage you trust as soon as you’re able to, ideally a Mercedes specialist if possible. Could the garage which serviced your car take a look?

I see you’re in Manchester so hopefully a member in your area will be able to make a recommendation.
