main battery = i used an intelligent charger set to agm , or a normal charger set to 12 volts low .

Yes got 12V smart charger with AGM mode on main now.

My aux battery has just been changed as it started showing a red battery on the dash. When I took it out it was the original i.e 13 years old! so they last ok as they don't get used and are charged by the alternator anyway. At least that's the case on my w219 cls.
