I had a warning stating "auxiliary battery malfunction" come up on my display, as you do, googled it & decided to replace the battery itself (located in boot, so easy job to do). Started to look around for costs & found on Europarts for £138.00, closely followed by another part supplier for £95.00 + carriage on next day delivery. So I waited until the next day to call Mercedes for a quote, expecting it to start with at least a "2"!, was pleasantly surprised when he stated £97.00 including VAT and had it in stock!

Collected, fitted and working fine now

Well done. Like you, I have been pleasantly surprised with some prices from Mercedes. I have stopped buying brake parts from Eurocarpoarts because they are no longer as competitive as they used to be. Plus I found that the brake pads do not always come with the metal clips and this is not stated on their website, so a bit of a hit and miss.

Yes this has happened before, but always a surprise when MB turn up with a low price when you are expecting a smacked backside.

Ordered my auxiliary battery on Thursday from Amazon. Took approximately 5 minutes on line. Arrived Friday.

Upto until last year the local dealer would beat or match any comparable supplier and gave me great discounts. I hardly ever buy from them now. When asked by the wife "why not from Mercedes"...........because they never answer the phone, employ inexperinced staff, do not now give discount, will not order without VIN, have to collect in person and waste 30minutes, etc, etc. No idea how they can go to a £50Million "gin palace" and become so dire.

I've had ESP non operative and anti-skid not working warning messages for the past few days - they go off when I stop and restart - however have become mre frequent and then today I had a handbrake warning light (I don't use the handbrake at all) and then a 'Auxiliary Battery malfunction' warning light - I'm guessing that the other warnings are a result of low voltage on start-up from the auxiliary battery and hoping that changing this will sort out all the warning messages - any advice/comments on this?

Check with the parts department in your local MB dealership to see how much they charge for a new Aux Battery for your car. They may surprise you!

My auxiliary battery malfunction came up the other day, a week or so after fitting a new main starter battery. I removed the aux battery and put it on charge, replaced it ( takes 5 mins on mine ) and since then its cured the fault, D83E487B-0C9B-4792-ADEB-0CF14489B1FA.jpeg

I've just bought one £100 ... not too bad by Mercedes standards - just need to know where it lives! - any clues/advice ... it is a 2015 X218 CLS220E Shooting Brake

If you scan the bar code thingy inside the passenger door it should tell you.

Try Tayna batteries next time for batteries.

I see your car is year 2015, is it an actual battery or a capacitor in a black box that you have been supplied by the MB dealership? A hundred pounds for an Aux Battery sounds more like the dreaded capacitor version to me.

Please can you upload a photo of the part you were supplied with by your MB dealership?

only issue right now is that batteries can't be delivered - have to be purchased/collected in person locally due to Lockdown - don't know why but that's what I was told when I tried to order a Mercedes one online - secondly the battery suggested is quite probably exactly the same and does the job but it is only £50 cheaper than the original item so for me, I'd prefer to pay the extra to have the genuine article ... if there were hundred of pounds at stake I may have a different view but for £50 - I'll stick to MB genuine part ... however - I still haven't worked out where it goes!

What is this genuine phenomenon all about ?

I can only liken it to brain washing and the phenomenon has made billions of extra revenue over exactly the same part !

So I bought a Lemforder suspension part from Euro Car Farts...

Only to find the 'genuine' part numbers had been ground off , I also found this with suspension top mounts etc .

It's all over... and I promise you it's one and the same part except if you go genuine you'll be paying silly money for the cardboard packaging .

You will most likely find your starter battery is a Varta, they are OEM for Mercedes, your aux battery is maybe Fiamm, nothing wrong with Varta as I’m sure others will testify, Tayna also do next day delivery. Vw /audi drop link.? If you buy for audi the numbers are on , vw ground off. A battery with a Mercedes badge worth £50 more than the same battery with varta sticker on it , mmmmm I'm sceptical ...

... however - I still haven't worked out where it goes!
Do you have the code sticker inside your door ?

OK thanks but finally found it - no thanks to my local dealer - who apart from saying it was in the boot were unwilling to offer any more help even though I bought it from them - their advice of course
was that I should bring it ion for a Mercedes specialist to fit.
It is actually a doddle to fit but finding it is not obvious ... for anyone else looking to fit one to a CLS X218 estate ... it's at the bottom of the boot well right at the very back on the driver side - you need to remove the felt cover (just yank it out) and then you will see the battery - even if you remove the fely cover and peel it back it's still easy not to see a battery anywhere if you don't know where to look!- I looked several times and even removed small front boot flap but couldn't see it anywhere - if only my garage had just told me where it was I could have saved a whole load of time - not sure I'll be buying my next car from them!
