This is probably blindingly obvious, but.....

Off down to Folkestone on Saturday via M6/M1/M25 but I understand M20 is closed from Ashford on Saturday. So, will use M2 - but how do I tell Mother (aka SatNav) to avoid the M20 as that will likely be the route it will want to use?

Check a map?

Thank you for that - would never have occurred to me...…;)

Anybody else have something a little more helpful please?

Try including a destination or two along the M2 and set those as "Via" in the route? Or perhaps better use the "Detour" function to block out the stretch of M20?

Thanks for the reply. Never seen the "Detour" function, so will go hunt. Your time appreciated

From the COMAND handbook (model year '08, not sure if the same as yours but gives the idea..)

The Detour function blocks a route segment
ahead. You can set the length of the block.
COMAND calculates a detour route if possible.
In the map display with the menu system
displayed ( page 119) select
“Route” - “Detour”.
To set length of block: Select
“Longer” or “Shorter” repeatedly until
the required length is set.
The blocked segment is highlighted in
red/white on the map. Shown at the
top of the display is the length of the
blocked segment and the route segment
to which the block goes.
To cancel the function: Select “Back”.
To start route calculation: Select
“Start”, see also ( page 135).
To change a block: Select “Navi” -
“Route” - “Detour” - “Change”.
i If a block already exists, the message “Detour
Already Set” is displayed. You can then
change or delete this.
Then set length of block.
To delete block: Select “Navi” -
“Route” - “Detour” - “Delete”.

Apart from the fact you don't need satnav for this trip it should identify road closures and traffic problems and recalculate a route automatically. Just get on the M2 and force it to recalculate.

Apologies - posted to wrong forum. Senior moment on my part......

Well do not worry too much put your entended route in,I take it from exiting the M1 onto the M25 you are going right anti clockwise and not left to the dartford crossing,if so let the sat nav take you onto the M23/M20 then when on the M20 turn off at Junction 7 marked Detling/Sittingbourne this will get you onto the M2.

Take the M2 and let it reroute?

Or take the M20 and follow the deviation signs?

Surely that would the long way round.?

From the M1 take the M25 to the Dartford crossing, remembering to pay the toll online, then exit the M2 (which i think is the 2nd junction after the dartford crossing).

Well going anti clockwise is 8 miles shorter, because you pick up the M23/M20,and at a weekend you want to avoid the shopping centres at the tunnel/bridge,also I have always found less traffic taking that route,

As to setting a detour I can't help you there as I don't know how to do it on mine but i use the tunnel quite a lot and the M20 is the most stressful part of my journey. i just use google maps on the phone. The diversion will be signposted but I missed my tunnel crossing last Thursday so give yourself extra time. I came off at M20 Junc 9 and it took over an hour to get back on at Junc 10 and that was at 4am. The long term weekend closures are finished for the time being though so it depends on what time are you travelling. The planned closures are from 20:00 to 06:00 this weekend but they usually open earlier (anytime from 05:00 onwards). This is the site I use for info Highways England | Improvements and major road projects

Got an email from Eurotunnel - hence going to use the M2 (Staying in Folkestone Saturday night and train early Sunday) and avoiding diversions

• The coast bound carriageway will be closed from Friday 6th September at 22:00 until Monday 9th September at 06:00.

• The London bound carriageway will be closed from junction 11 (Hythe) to junction 10 (Ashford East) from Friday 6th September at 22:00 until Monday 9th September at 06:00.

I think you mean M26/M20...

The OP wants to avoid the M20 because it’s closed...

Plan your preferred route and set waypoints as separate destinations.

The M20 is only closed from junction 8, and it would seem you can still get off at 8,but I would remove myself at 7 to pick up the M2,as I say I would avoid the dartford crossing on a Saturday, but hey best of luck.
