Just put the car away in the garage till spring. Am going to find the fuses/relays for the fuel pump and run the engine till it cuts out, so that I can turn over the engine every couple of weeks or so just to run the oil round to keep it lubricated. Also going to put new springs, shocks and control arms on as done 89k and it’s time for a refresh.
Also going to send the abs unit to Ecu testing for a rebuild as star is showing intermittent communication

Nearly forgot, a big thank you to car-tography for the pic at this years pendlefest driving challenge!

We did a 100 mile drive through the Yorkshire dales which raised money for charity. Each car had a rally plaque and had to stop off at locations for a timed break and get your route book signed. Was a really good day out
Rotary Club of East Sutherland (Dornoch ) do one every year (23rd May 2020 ) for the RNLI, 65 cars maximum allowed also v good fun. Quite a few come up from England for a weekend of it . 1 couple from Essex who bring a different car each year. Open to Classic and modern sports cars. Info here www.eastsutherlandrotary.org/classic-car-tour

Hmm, this could have the making of a good topical thread. I'm interested in people's lay-up procedures. For example, I'm inclined to run the motor dry of fuel, whip the plugs out (easier said than done) and pour oil in. Shouldn't need to turn it over then.

Mine is fairly simple. At the end of October the car is thoroughly cleaned and driven to make sure all water has blown out. It is put into dry heated garage with the parking brake off and CTEK connected. It's covered with a light breathable cover and that's it until spring apart from occasionally checking tyre pressures. I've been storing this way for years without any problems.

Why not just drive them over the winter months? I love an early Sunday morning blast round the country lanes in the fresh crisp air...

Cars take a bit of a pounding here in LT during winter. It's pretty much freezing temperatures and treated roads for 5 months from November to March. Winter tyres are compulsory too. I keep one car on the road and the MB is put away.

In UK I keep the M6 on the road throughout winter. On the rare occasion it snows it can stay in the garage. I agree with you though, a run out on a bright winter's day can be very pleasant.

Sorry, didn't realise you wasn't UK based.

I always understood that the first few revs an engine makes, ie before the oil has circulated, causes the most damage. This would seem to be exacerbated if the oil is really cold?

I suppose though oil technology could have moved on in recent years, making it more "clingy" to surfaces?

I'm sure you are right which is the reason I do not run the engine for short periods during storage. I take the view that the more cold starts the more opportunity for wear and a build up of condensation in the exhaust system. i prefer to leave it alone until I'm ready to put it back on the road.

It’s mainly because of the salt I’m keeping it off for the winter. I plan on steam cleaning the whole underside and then spraying with wax to help keep any rust at bay. Not a bad idea to get a cover though. The garage is underneath some flats, so doesn’t freeze inside, and I’ve put a weatherstrip at the bottom of the door to keep any damp and leaves out.
Will also roll the car in and out once a month to help keep any flat spots on the tyres at bay, and have pumped them up to 50psi.

@Athey, be careful you don't increase the risk of condensation by blocking off all your ventilation. Also, our cars do not like battery issues so I would definately suggest keeping it hooked up to a CTEK conditioner if you have power available.

Yes, keep a light cover on it. Nothing more annoying than finding it covered in dust and dark spots from fly droppings.

I’ve left a small area at each end of the door clear to keep some airflow going. Please could you elaborate on the battery issue, as there is no electric supply, though I recently bought a new battery and still have the old one. Maybe an idea to have one plugged into the battery conditioner at home and change them over every 2 weeks.

Just put my Lotus into storage for the winter. 55-60% humidity controlled environment, on charger and under cover. Will be started and rolled backward/forwards every 4 weeks. Track / summer tyres so happy to not drive on them in the winter!

The other cars in the storage facility were unreal. Name a super car/hyper car and they had it, sometimes more than one.
