Hi newbie just bought 2013 C220 AMG Sport in pearl white the garage replaced rear tyres but there awful tbh accelara budget what’s a good tyre I can upgrade thanks

Millions of threads on tyres on here - search is your friend

Those aren't well reviewed, so budget dependent, any premium branded or tier two name will suffice

So Michelin, through Contis to Fallen and Hankook or even Nexen

Congratulations on your new car and welcome to Tarmac. I’m far from an expert, but my suggestions below are based upon you reducing the risk of ending up with more “awful” tyres, and incurring more cost.

Unless you’re looking for very very best performance, just go for the best deal from a big premium brand, like Michelin or Continental, and you can’t really go wrong - these would almost certainly have been fitted at the factory when the car was new.

Pirelli, Goodyear or Dunlop could also be good big premium brand options, but you’ll find reviews are more variable, some lovers and some haters, depending upon the “type” of tyres and size. For example Pirelli Pzero are well regarded for some cars but not others even though the name is the same.

Personally I would want the same tyres all round, and ideally big premium brands, so I would either match what’s already in the front if they’re well regarded tyres, or replace all four tyres.

Being north of the border I would also consider fitting all season Crossclimate+ or the new Contis. Not much of a compromise in summer and significantly better than summer tyres when the temperature drops.

Cheap tyres put on to pass the MOT, had same with my CLK at time of purchase.

Thank you for your replies. I think the tyres fired should be called ditch finders will be going with your advice and buying premium tyres . Also have a clunking from front when going over bumps feels like a ball joint but car just passed mot and has full mb service history so confused

Am on second set of Goodyear Efficient Grip for my CLK. Excellent tyres, good grip in the wet and quiet.

Just about to change my 255 Hankooks on rear after 27k, faultless in every way. Got them from Halfords at £120 each but that was four years ago.

I have the same vehicle as your but in petrol guise, the pirellis it came with werent very good, i didnt want to go all out and spend on a set of michelins as its not really a powerful sports car so i went for uniroyal rainsport 3 and they are phenomenal, havent look back since. So they are a definite recommendation from me

I have accellera tires on my S55 and SL500. I don't do much miles so my tires tend to dry rot before they wear out. They do wear out quickly (about 15k miles) but are otherwise not bad. I get 265/40R18's for about $85

given it isnt a sports car, there are loads of really great mid range tyres from vreiseden, falken etc that will fit the bill.

I personally wouldn't touch accelera phi tyres. In the dry they are reasonably quiet and no drama. In the wet, they are simply dangerous if there is anything resembling standing water and if you're on the motorway for example, that could potentially be very scary indeed.

maybe first stick your vehicle reg into a site like blackcircles.com and see what pops up in terms of brands and cost . or tyrereviews.co.uk

Accellera are the worse tyres I’ve ever had the misfortune to experience - a brand new set had been fitted to an X5 I bought a few year ago and they were downright dangerous; I’d have been safer on tyres that were all four different brands and with only 1mm of tread on - hideous!

As for recommendations for your C-Class, I’ve fitted Continentals before to the same car and they’ve been great but also Nexen were fantastic too.

Some Accelera were included in a tyre test , lol .

Many on here find the Uniroyal Rainsport 3's to be a very competent tyre at a reasonable price point.

Hi,

I had the Michelin Crossclimates on my W205 and they were brilliant in the summer and winter. Well worth considering if they do your size.

Thanks people just got 4 uniroyal rain sport 3 . Tyres fitted today 105 pound rear and 80 pound fronts . So I will see when it rains per tyre obvs . Seriously though accelaras seemed dangerous didn’t give me any confidence. The Mercedes is my first rear wheel drive car in seven years since my clk230 I always had Audi Quattros after that so thanks again for advice

In recent years I have always fitted branded tyres: Dunlop, Michelin, Continental.

And I have driven cars that came with Bridgestone, Firestone, and Nexen.

I am yet to experience a 'bad' tyre. Sure, some are better than others but none were bad.

So either my driving is sedated and I am not really pushing the car... or the brands mentioned above all make decent tyres.
