Hi I have a 23 month old B Class 160 sport auto with the lovely AMG alloys.. The only problem is althought the alloys are perfect the chromed nuts are all rusty - thinking of asking Mercedes to replace them under warranty - has anyone else had them rust / corrode and tackled Mercedes over it - many thanks..:):)

Good luck. I would rub them Down and paint them silver. The chrome ones only ever look good for a limited life

Dealers will usually replace them if you make a fuss.

M-B wheel bolts used to have stainless steel ends (which obviously didn't rust). They were dropped on cost grounds ...

I have a set on my SL (on the right below, standard bolt on the left) :)

also because stainless tended to seize more than mild steel

It's only the end plate (the bit you can see when the bolt is fitted) that's stainless steel.

I had all 16 replaced on my ML under warranty by my local MB dealer, I didn't even need to make a fuss.

Ahh...that's why mine still look good after 12 years :bannana:. Couldn't understand why so many other members have complained about their rusty bolts.

Mind you, they are about the only things that haven't rusted on my car. The cost-cutting just hadn't reached the wheel bolts by then!

As your car is still under warranty, the dealer shouldnt even argue. I had all mine replaced 3 times under warranty, and even though my warranty ran out last October, the dealer has just replaced them again under goodwill, so you shouldnt have any problems. Dont forget to get them to change the locking nuts too.

Yep, as BTN_500 said... mine were replaced under warranty when the car was just two years old.

The dealer initially tried to point to the clause in the owners manual saying that improper use of acid-based wheel cleaning solution can cause the wheel bolts to rust - however, as we were standing in the service department customer car park, I urged him to show me a single second-hand Merc in the car park with rust-free wheel bolts - and he conceded defeat :).

But the new bolts only lasted another two years before going rusty again... :(

The good news thanks to everyone is yes Mercedes changed the lot inc the locking wheel nut and said if it happens again then no prob bring it in and they will change em again !! Of course me thinks they would be better to just make wheel nuts that don't rust !( my other car is an IS 250 Lexus - had it 7 years from new nuts all fine still ). Thanks everyone really appreciate your comments .

I rubbed mine down with wire wool and then put silver Hammerite onto a kitchen washing up sponge and dab them. They last a long time but when trying to sort out my suspension they the wheels were on and off quite a few times which took the paint off.

Just found the pics. It was wet and dry, not wire wool if I remember rightly. The wet and dry 1200 made it a lot quicker and easier.

The wheel bolts really spoil the look of my refurbed wheels :( Are there any better quality aftermarket bolts available?
