Hi does anyone know can you fold the mirrors on my new ( well 1 year old but new to me ) B class sport and if not can you retro fit folding mirrors and any ideas of cost ??? It's a real tight fit in my garage - many thanks ...

Hello

I'm sure it can be done, at what cost I wouldn't like to guess but you maybe able to source some bits on e-bay.

Too be honest if its 'that' tight its still going to be pretty tight with them folded? plus if you fold them its harder to judge the reversing into the garage?

Hello and welcome to the forum

"Smatt" a member on this forum mentioned the following:

"You asked about this previously and I advised you that you needed 'folding mirror compatible door modules'.
These modules are not universal. If your car did not come with folding mirrors it will not have the circuitry for them, so you need door modules from a car that did have folding mirrors, or you need to buy some new ones from a dealer. However the dealer will need to look up the part no.s off a VIN from a car which does have folding mirrors(ie not yours).
The modules cannot be 'flashed' afaik.
You may also need a different loom/mirror frame for folding mirrors between the mirror & the door module, although I am unsure about that one"

For more information do a forum search on w245 and w169, B class & A class respectively as some of the parts on these models are inter-changeable
hope this helps:thumb:

I have an A Class W169 without the folding door mirrors. I too wanted to see about getting them fitted to my car.

I got in touch with member Alfie. He informed me that yes it can be done. But at a cost of £800 (that was 2 years ago now) I decided to leave my car as it is.

The folding mirror option when buying a new car is only a £150 extra. An option well worth selecting when buying new. As a new replacement wing mirror costs around £200 each to replace.

Although as an option it is £150 the parts themselves cost over £500, last time we checked. Then there is labour and coding. It takes about three hours to do this job.

This shows just what a markup there is on parts if MB can fit them for £150 at build time yet to Joe Public the parts are over £500:crazy:

True, but the £150 cost also takes into account the substiution of the standard mirrors that are about £200 per side (in parts costs) that would normally be fitted.

Having said, that as an option MB (like most manufacturers) still make a huge amount of profit on optional extras.

My first A Class came with fixed mirrors and I was quoted £1,100 by a main dealer to retro fit folding mirrors. Needless to say, when I came to change the car for a new A Class I specified the folding mirror option.

My A190 in Nassau got electric folding mirrors, unlike the A160 here in UK, although on W168 you can fold them manually. Still, was thinking about retrofitting electric ones, before this thread that is :) ... Oh, well
