Hey all just generating some idea as to how much a B service costs as i have been given different quotes.

I also have had a look around to see what's in the B service and it looks like a major service but with lot of them seems to be doing only checks? is this correct?

has anyone got a complete list of a B Service check list and parts are supposed to be changed?

B service is oil change with additional checks and fluid top ups. There will also be extra items (e.g. air filter, brake fluid, pollen filter, fuel filter, transmission fluid, spark plugs etc) that are based on a time / mileage interval, whichever comes first. Your service book lists these items and when they need to be done. What needs doing will depend on what has been done in the previous services.

ESS will tell you what should be done this service but that is assuming the other items above have been done at the correct intervals.

I believe that the pollen filter change is included in the B-Service cost.

AFAIK, apart from the extra checks, the cabin filter change is the only material difference between A and B Service.

It isnt included, every dealer I rang for a quote for a B service added it on.

See price list attached will vary from dealer to dealer so check your local dealers website for an exact price.

Those must be 'London' prices, My local dealer only charges £209.00 including VAT for the service on my E250 Sport Estate (212), then again it was only 6 months old when it hit 16,000 miles. Still, based on those prices it isn't going to be that expensive to service over the next 3 years.

OK, it's a "prestige" car, but the air, fuel and pollen filter replacement charges are insane.

I know it's a completely different scale of car, but the franchised dealer will do a major service on my daughter's Mitsubishi Colt, with the service schedule including plug change, air and pollen filter and even the brake fluid, for £225. There are no "additional items" - everything needed is in the schedule and in the quoted price. They even strip and clean the rear drum brakes, and adjust the handbrake. (I note the dealer above charges £36 to adjust the parking brake).
And they extend the Mitsubishi pan-european breakdown cover for a year with each service.

Barring the plugs, of which there are only 3 in our Colt, I bet the rest of the work is no quicker on the Colt than it is on a Mercedes.

npuk, what dealership is that price list for as it seems pretty cheap compared to some of the prices ive been quoted

Just had my 57 plate E220 in for a E service 45k miles ( according to assyst ) which equates to a B service in todays terms. Was quoted £980 from newcastle and £844 from cardiff. ( think Cardiff missed something off.
Was offered the service agreement deal of £1116 for 3 services which hopefully was a good move.
Items listed on service were
B type service
Air / fuel filters replaced
Brake fluid change
Auto gearbox oil and filter change.

Are the plugs changed as part of the B service ?:dk::dk:

Your thoughts please.

Park Royal but the prices may have gone up as I got that price list early last year.

E service = B service + the additional time / mileage dependant items.

Plugs are not included, they are one of the additional time / mileage dependant items.

B service

Just had a B service

oil and filter 6.5 litre
pollen filter and air filter
Fuel filter

Cost me about £90 for the bits and £50 for a merc techie to do it and check the brakes, wheels etc etc and service reset, whats that £140 as opposed to £369 or so? :thumb:

fixed price B service for E class AMG is now £469 + pollen filter @ £43 + SBC blake fluid change at £155. total £667

i supplied my own oil @ £50 and got some discounts and the cost came to £475, total inc oil £525.

they also have booked some bits in via the warraanty and i get roadside assistance for 2 more years (via mobilio), another dealer stamp.

next year is a A service which came to £120 with my own oil (last year) so that will fgot to a dealer after that an indi all the way!

service indicator pain

My dash is also saying B service due, I only use the car at the weekend and have only done 4000 miles since last MB service( 18 months ago). Car has done 41K since new , checked service book, tells you when to change spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, brake fiuid etc.. found it strange that no mention of automatic transmission fluid, when to change and at what mileage. Dealerships say at approx 40k , however something as important as automatic transmission should be mentioned in official service book. This dash reminder can be a pain when using the car rarely.

As a Mercedes non-technical person I decided that as my CLS500 has only done 36k miles and I only have service records until 2008 I decided to investigate what it would cost to have a B Service with extras to ensure that everthing was up todate. I obtained prices from Mercedes Main dealer and a recommended Independant with the following results.

MAIN DEALER
B Service £355
Brake Fluid £175
Gearbox oil change £296
Spark Plug change £255
Air Filter £90
Charcol Filter £43
Air Con Service £100
MOT £35
Total £1349.00

INDEPENDANT MERCEDES SPECIALIST
B Service £226
Brake Fluid £75
Gearbox Oil change £180
Spark Plug change £235
Air Filter £35
Charcoal filter £25
Air Con Service Free
MOT £39
Total Cost £815.00

Total saving of £534.00.

Being serviced by independant on Friday. I was also investigating the possibility of a Mercedes Warranty but was told that with a lack of full Mercedes service record they would not provide me with one. The Warranty cost with Mercedes is approximately £1100.00. £875.00 with Warranty Direct and £500 with the RAC. More research needed as my mileage is only £4k per year I have to ask myself is it worth it.
Hope my post has not bored anyone but I just love having a bit of research at costs.

Hi Mac, if you get back to the main dealer, or even try a few more, and bargain using those indi quotes you might be surprised how much you can get knocked off their quote!

Nice to see they have your name right here...

Good idea, but reached a stage after two days, can't be @rsed so will go with the Independant as his Mechanics are ex Mercedes trained, all Mercedes parts. Also very close to where I live. Out of interest I did try that but they would not budge as they told me thats what it costs.

Can't understand why on the other forum, done 34 posts, can't PM applied for name change, nothing seems to happen. It could be me!!!!

Certainly not just you, I too am waiting for a name change over there.
Don't give up on them though - both forums are equally great, with many members on both.

I had a letter from MB UK this week... they offer the next service - either A or B - for a flat fee of just £125 (in celebration of MB's 125th anniversary). And if the car is not due a service in the next 6 months, for this money they will give it a good check-up. I find the whole thing a bit odd to be honest.
