'B' Service

The C Class went for a 'B' Service yesterday, and came back with auto folding mirrors :bannana: but no other additions in the menu though:(

I bought 2 x Mobil 1 0W40 from Costco for £19.99+VAT each as the dealer would have used Mobil S 5W40 and charged around £100 . superior oil, for half the price.

I knew that all the brake disc/pads need replacing but I'll wait until the warning light comes on before that job gets done. They noted that the fan belt is cracking, the top breather hose needs replacing, and the multiplug seal on the gearbox is leaking, but I'll get those done independently - just need to get the part numbers from the Russian site.

Very painless overall - and I had a W204 C180 Sport for the day.

Maybe I am very untrusting, but I would want to SEE my oil being poured into MY car. Specially when their normal oil is inferior to that supplied.
Anyone else feel the same - or is it just me?

Plug seal on the gearbox is not a cheap job - even when done by an indie. Had it done on mine at the last B service.
Hope your wallet is full ! ! ! !

Interesting point Dave - but how does that help your relationship with your dealer...

" Mr Dealer - I think you will be stealing my oil so I want to watch you put the right stuff in"......

Hard Question to answer ...but I understand your sentiments

I wanted to stick around but I unfortunately had a meeting to go to.

Just remember the warning light for the worn brakes is just a guide. I have known pads to be worn down to the metal and the light still has not come on.

Also if your gearbox is leaking oil you must get that sorted as low ATF does the gearbox no good at all and you may find a much more expensive bill for a damaged gearbox.

I am not trying to frighten you but if they have advised these item I would get them done asap.

I know that would present a real problem, and obviously for that very reason you wouldnt say anything...........
BUT..... it would still linger in my mind............
