I have a Mercedes B200, 65 registration, petrol, auto, sport. Periodically I have a ‘transmission failure, take it to your workshop, do not change gear’ dashboard warning. The car's engine would, without any warning, just cut out and the car would drift to a halt, (this is not ‘limp or ‘fail-safe mode’ where the transmission is locked in 2nd gear), this happened a couple of times each year but is now getting more serious. Depending on where, and how lucky I am, it could prove fatal, a smart motorway for instance. The problem never shows up on their Mercedes plug-in diagnostic system.
Mercedes have had the car since the 18 February to rectify this fault. They kept telling me that they could not find anything wrong with it. But I persisted with my complaint and they, surprisingly, had to find out from head office what the display essentially means.
Finally, after further tests, under instructions, they found a fault, i.e. 'the battery had been producing too much voltage to the gearbox, this then causing the problems you have been experiencing'. As the wording is very ambiguous, I need to quantify their findings with other experienced viewpoints, it will help me decide on their result, and as to whether I should accept this car back.
Can you help me, please?
