For the second time in two weeks my rear bumper has been scuffed by some monkey trying to park his car behind mine !

arghhh... i only had these bumpers fully painted and lacquered last month !!!

First time it was scuffed wasn’t too bad, the second time it looks like a frigging tiger had mauled the bumper!!

My bumpers are stock AMG, colour coded. Does any one know if you can get black rubber strips (maybe 1/4 inch thick, 1/2 inch wide) that can be glued along the length and corners of the rear bumper (without falling/peeling) so that it would take the "hit" from any other car's bumper ? I don’t know if such a thing exists, if it doesnt it bloody well should !

I know that such a thing would ruin the look of the bumper and “smoothness of flow”, but its far better than having such scratches on the body of the bumper itself. My eyes are transfixed on these scratches now every time I pass by my car!

PS. i have been having evil fantasies this morning about my next car being a 4x4 with metal bumpers with pieces of shredded glass glued on these bumpers .. that will teach anyone who tries and gets too close to my car ! (cue evil laugh ... )

I suppose this thread shouldn't be in this section, but which section to go in?
...bodyshop? No specific bodywork stuff has really been discussed so that's out.

Steve_Perry's chose to post his carpark dings story in the Roadrage/Incidents/Wins section, so that's where I'm moving this thread! :)

John, Halfords do exactly what you are talking about. Trouble is they look a bit "numb" if you know what I mean (I'll get crucified for this!) somewhat Daewoo Matiz crown green bowling club member styling. Do I quit now?. Anyway, I dont think they are permanent so you could fix them if your parking position looks vulnerable then take them off later. Halfords also do a similar thing along the lines of a more traditional rubbing strip which is black/chrome which comes on a roll, that might be more in keeping?

Portzy, thanks for the tips. I am heading to Halfords as soon as i can to investigate, with view to fitting one of these to my car (having said that, the image of a staple door being shut after the horse has bolted is running through my mind !)

Hmm.. how about the metal bumpers with the shrdded glass, anyone knows where i can get those and fit them to my car !

Do not get the rubber strips, they look hideous!

I once knew a bloke in NW10 who had a Rolls Royce with 2 very sturdy lengths of 4x2 channel iron as front and rear bumpers,
The rest of the car was mint. :D
