This is a blatent an unappologetic plea for your support of a good cause...
Today was not a good day for the Retired Greyhound Trust. It seems that their 'Daybreaks Kennels' centre near Birmingham Airport is under threat of closure from Solihull Council. Despite provisionally agreeing the appropriate Certificate, they've since done a U-turn, and the centre may have to close.
Greyhounds have been kennelled on the site since 1983, but the owner has allowed Ruth Boswell to use it as a rehoming centre for retired racers from the Perry Barr track since July 2006. The work that Ruth and her husband Rob have put in is awe inspiring. In addition to ploughing their money into the charity, they've also invested almost all of their waking hours.
It's estimated that around 9,000 racing greyhounds retire each year, and only a tiny minority are rehomed. A shocking number are destroyed - often in inhumane ways - and has received some media attention recently.
A terrible shame as they make the perfect pet in every respect - great for those with allergies, children-friendly, and incredibley need very little exercise. You just need to make sure that you keep your mechanical fluffy rabbit collection out of sight.
I was completely unaware of the problem until September last year, but the work Ruth and her volunteers do inspired us to do our bit, and we've loved every moment since we welcomed Doggy Dazzler into our family.
If there's anything you can do to help I'm sure Daybreaks would appreciate your support. If you can help in anyway visit their website - here are a few ways that you could make a real difference:

- Offering a loving home to a Greyhound;
- Making a donation towards the upkeep of the kennels;
- Signing the petition to keep the kennels open; or
- Something else completely.
