Bad gearbox mount???

I doubt it would have done.

The engine mounts dont have to move to be worn. They are fluid filled. The fluid leaks out and they sink. Hence the vibration.

Thanks for that - there's no sign of leakage. It's such a subtle vibration. I'm not averse to getting mounts done, but at the cars age and value I'd like to be a bit more certain before throwing a few hundred pounds at it!

Labour is bugger all as they are a doddle on your car. 1 hour max

Was the above reply to whitenemesis when he had his C270 - an hour to change all three mounts?

When they leak a brown stain is left on the mount body.

It will take an hour or so to fit them on a C270 if you are quick and done a few before.

Thanks - sadly there's nothing so clear cut as staining.

Indie wants to have a look at the airbox mountings - guided by me saying I'm certain this only started after the cars last dealer service, where they changed the air filter. I've certainly seen this (and a bunch of other things) as a possible cause, but it strikes me as unlikely as a route for vibration to get to the cars body. The engine's idle isn't anything like smooth though.

I'm being quoted 2.4 hours to change the mounts.

Thats the standard labour time.
