Talk about an up-and-down day yesterday......

11:00 Mrs E calls to say that she has won a competition with Gulf Air, who sponsor the Bahrain GP. Prize is two return business class flights, 2 nights in a top hotel, Grandstand seats and VIP passes for race day, food, transfers and a souvenier pack. She's not that interested in F1, so wants to know if I'm free. Nagging thoughts in the back of my head, but I'm up for it.

12:00 Mrs E calls back - she has to go. But a weekend away with Mrs E is no bad thing.

12:10 Still nagging thoughts...

12:15 Damn! I've got a gig on the Saturday night!! Can't go....

12:16 Mrs E calls again - her passport has expired!! You would have thought she was on top of these things, especially when she manages this type of thing for her clients. £120+ for 24 turn-around - but at least she can use her company's courier services so she doesn't have to go to London. She and our 14 year old son are now booked to go....

At least the lad is a hard-core motorsport fan and will enjoy the experience.

I have been promised a trip somewhere later in the year to make up for it. Mrs E is looking to do another mad weekend - I'm hoping Hong Kong again - although she's also been looking at transatlantic crossings on the QM2.

That's tough.:(

Weekend in HK. That's an awful long way to go. You'll spend more time in the aircraft!

It was mad - we'd just moved house (and very stressful it was too) and needed a break. She got some good fares and a deal with a hotel. So spent 2 days in HK, and 14 hours flying each way!

It cost us less than a weekend in Paris (and we got free biz class upgrades each way) - one of the few perks of having a missus in the business.

That I'd like to go on.

I've only been on one cruise - Mariner of the Sea around the Caribbean. Absolutely loved it.

Cunard were recently doing deals @ £695 + free upgrade to outside cabin with private balcony, in either direction.

So I looked at it as the equivalent of staying in an all-inclusive 5* resort for £115/night per person, which is pretty good.

I've never done a cruise - Mrs E has done a couple through work and keeps trying to get me on one. I think I've finally succumbed - but it will have to be with someone like Cunard or Silverseas. Quite fancy the Hong Long - Vietnam itinerary that some have around.
