Evening all, could anyone point me at a splitter that will be suitable for the track rod ends on my w210? There's various types on fleabay and I've already tried the fork type one which has knackered the rubber seal. I guess the scissor type ones would be better but there seems to be a variation in the size range that they fit, what would be the right size to go for?

Doesn't matter about the ruber seal they were knackered anyway.

It is possible to separate the tow parts by use of a large hammer. Just a sharp rap on the ends will make them part. If it doesn't then hit it harder. I did mine on a 124 and should imagine them to be similar.

I can't see why the fork didn't work. More force needed?

Don't bother with a splitter. Just large hammer blows and lever it downwards with a lever bar at the same time.

NEVER use heat on a ball joint! It could cost you your life.

Just use two lump hammers either side of the steering arm, the ball joint should just pop out.

That always works for me - ideally hit with both simultaneously but, if no room, hold the largest hammer against one side and then whack the other side.

Thanks for all the advice chaps, naturally I favour the large hammer approach!
