Hi all

When i brake there is a knocking noise coming from the left hand side. It only knocks once and varies in loudness from a quit knock to a louder one that can be heard outside the car. It doesn't necessarily get worse or better with speed or force of braking.

Can anyone suggest what it might be. The brakes work fine and no warning lights on. I had all discs and oads changed less than 1500 miles ago and have had a service and inspection done in the last 3 weeks by an indy.

Thanks

Your brake pad backing plate doesn't fit the brake calliper perfectly. Either they're not perfectly fitting, or the steel shim frame that comes with them has come off. You've got a slight gap and when not on the brakes, the pad settles down at the lowest point. When you touch the brake, the pad gets pushed against the moving disc and gets slammed up against the top of the calliper, hence the bang you hear.

I'd have a look and see if the shim is missing first, it could be just that.

Thanks i hope its something simple like this ill check it over the weekend
