Bargain Sierra Anyone...

I thought there was a typo and it should have been 200k miles. How wrong I was . Nuts money. They looked good then, but now? And 204bhp?

I had a mate in the Oil business [ he designed North Sea oil platforms---- quote :- in engineering terms they're like a bar stool---only bigger ;)] who had three 3 door Cosworths including a RS 500 which was nicked in broad daylight from outside his office. He drove V12 JAGS after that. The RS 500 was built to homologate the car for racing bigger valves and turbo irrc but wasn't so nice to drive on the road . With that big rear wing it was a head turner in its day especially in Moonstone blue.:cool:

Yeah but don't forget cars were a lot lighter then - so BHP per ton was significant when comparing to todays powers...

I wouldn't touch any Ford of that era personally - rather just look up a picture to remind me but my 1990 G reg XR3i of the day was agricultural when compared to the successor E36 325 Coupe I bought.

Nostalgia gone mad.

I still remember dad's mk3 rs turbo what a mota ,let alone a rs 500 200k is too steep but it seams to go that way with all the icon cars at certain era .
 
It's horses for courses. For my 200 grand I'd want a different horse, each to their own but I can understand the appeal as I lusted after a Sierra Cosworth in the 80's. Good luck to the seller and buyer.

It would certainly be worth that if it had a modicum of successfull competition history to its name, but otherwise £200k does seem a trifle steep. :dk:

In racing form with that bigger turbo/intercooler and its twinrail/8injectors the same engine reputedly developed 59O PS latterly.

I have owned 17 cosworths and still have a 2wd saff. To many to list Rs turbos xr3i's ect. Will always keep my eye out for more but with these prises it's crazy!!!! :crazy:

Indeed they were. And a Stage 1 kit on a non RS500 gave c.270 BHP making it a genuine 160 MPH machine, which in the hands of somebody else I can verify. M4 heading west in the early hours of the morning back in '90/91, said driver got done @ 116 MPH and cops reckoned were over 150 just prior to that, the cop was was correct. :D

I honestly don't know if the asking price is excessive in the current market but one thing I do know is, there's plenty of diehard Ford boys out there, so maybe it will sell at that price or to a collector...or even to someone that's had their fill of modern stuff.
 
You had an RS500 as company car...? Who did you work for, Carroll Shelby? :D

DEC - Digital Equipment Corporation. You could have any car you wanted as long as you could afford the repayments. I then had a 1 of 500 homologation Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo that was breathed on by TRD. At the time it was one of only 4 in the UK and the only one in black. I went on to own three of them over time.
 
If you click on the listing John, its prototype no1, hence why they advertising at the 'dream' price:rolleyes:...it will sell eventually for the right money, i understand one sold recently for £90k.

I went from a mk1 Escort RS Turbo to an RS500 Cosworth in black around mid 1990.

We were doing a massive job at Thames Valley Park in Reading and have fond memories caning around the M25 and up the M4.
 
I had an RS Sapphire Cosworth 2wd in the early 90s and they were a fast fun car. Whack in a Superchips 300bhp upgrade and bigger injectors and they were silly quick.

But they are a dinosaur in comparison to today's quick cars. £200k is crazy money, but a collector will probably pay close to that, lock it away and hope it gains in value.
 
It is funny how 204 BHP from a 4-pot was the realm of the exotic just 30 years ago.... while nowadays a W204 250 CGI with nearly similar output is considered a daily driver.
 
Just look how silly E30 M3 prices have been over the years. Especially the EVO models. Thankfully the 190E EVO2's have recently jumped up in price to match. Long before time in my opinion. Even the standard 190E 16v's are shooting up in price now. Sadly after I got rid of mine:fail But it was a rust bucket.
