Ever noticed how everything older than around 2005 is now being described as a "Barn Find"? Even something like THIS MONDEO which has been MOT'd every year for the last 10 years so never really been in a barn, yet is now worth a lot more than a normally used one, at least according to the seller...

I've just happened across the perfect way to turn you old car into a BARN FIND, thereby doubling or even trebling your return. A must have for all enthusiasts who have an old car and need to maximise it's potential future value.

Also worth checking the seller's other items.

And of course the words 'Future Classic' guarantee that it it's worth whatever the seller wants. In what way is this middling-spec sales-rep special a future classic?

I'm selling a barn find Mini Countryman on ebay.

Well where I live at Dovercourt I am surrounded by barn finds,I know of at least 4 cars that are taken out of their garage and driven 3 miles to supermarkets and then driven home again on a Thursday, a throwback to when people were payed in cash on a Thursday,MOT stations around here will tell you they get cars in that have done just 300 miles in the preceding year.

I find that link quite alarming. Not the Mondeo itself, that is; I was given one as a company car in the early 90's and was amazed to find myself driving a Ford (a Ford!) which actually had an engine that revved, dampers that damped and brakes that braked. An utter revelation after all the Anglia's, Escorts, Cortina's and Capri's that I'd been subject to in my formative years.

Anyway, up to that point Ford had just cynically foisted all manner of cr*p on the British public who'd lapped it all up.

And on that page is a whole assortment of those horrible old things. At utterly stupid prices.

Ergh, put it back in the barn and leave it there...

"Barn Find" is like adding the word "Marine" - it is a price multiplier.

The bike adds are full of the "buzz words" for an old neglected machine - Barn find / retro / bobber / future classic / cafe racer . It seems just changing the height of the bars can make it go from a chopper / cruiser / bobber / race rep.

I did once see a bike described as "streetfighter" with purely the addition of some Renthal handlebars. Errr...no.

This current craze for bearded hipster types hacking up old BMWs into "cafe", "tracker", tw*t...sorry, "brat" style makes me smile though - every one they wreck makes my old nail more and more valuable.

OK, the CX500 'plastic maggot' from Honda isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's sad to see so many good runners being chopped around to make 'cafe racers'.

Yes, I know my JZR's donor was a CX, but it was a crashed bike, having a totalled front end and frame......

The manky W124 I broke in the spring was a proper barn find (the tyres were covered with manure for extra authenticity) and after that experience I definitely wouldn't buy another real barn find - it had rotted in some really weird places after spending 4 years in a damp barn, the seats had been nibbled by something and the n/s/f wheel bolts had rusted so badly they all snapped off, permanently fixing the wheel in place!
