Hi All (Happy New Year)

My 1999 C200 Playing up again,bas/asr lights comes up at randem times and I have to turn ignition off to clear them.

It is happening more often now and looking at the forum for this fault most people say brake switch so I am going to go for that first.

Any idea of the part number and where is the best place to get one from.

Many thanks

Dealer. They are cheap enough and I have had problems with the ones from Euro and GSF car parts...

Don't people have trouble with most of the parts purchased from ECP and GSF.
I always get my parts from the dealer because they are A: correct and fit properly, B: reliable, C: generally cheaper than ECP.

Well it depends, I try to stick to dealer, but they are cheaper on some parts and deliver 3-4 times a day whereas with dealer most things are out of stock and take a while to come in.
Sometimes i order from various sources and whoever brings me the correct part the quickest gets paid!

The MB part should be more up to date, under £10 and held on with one nut.
When this switch goes down (leak) it kills the speed sensor to the SAM, that is why the cruise control will not work with a faulty switch.

Hi Malcom

My car is a manual so cruise control does not apply to me but due to the fact that the BAS ASR light is coming on sometimes (only when I am driving if I turn the ignition off and then back on again it goes off for a while) I thought looking at past problems I should go for the brake switch first.

This car has had a new ECU fitted by the main stealers 6 weeks ago so if the switch does not work could it be a sensor playing up.

Many thanks

The ASR BAS info is taken from the ABS, so it should not be a sensor fault. Normally the switch cures the problem. I am surprised that MB have done nothing to improve this situation in this day and age. as the cost is only £8.75 for the switch and simple to fit (if you can stand on your head) it must be worth a try. Do use an MB one though.
if you still have problems after fitting the switch give me the first 6 numbers of your VIN and I will do a search for you.
