The bas esp light keeps coming on on my w208 CLK 230. I took it to a specialist who supposedly repaired it, he removed the bulb!:bannana: Any ideas to find the real problem?

Thanks, that is interesting. The brake lights are working normally though.

They normally do,it's a contact on that switch to the ecu that fails, the one that tells it you are braking.

having had this problem with our W210 estate I would say get a genuine merc part it won't cost the earth and yes it has fixed the problem

BAS ESP light still on

Changed the brake light switch today, genuine part £10.70.Light still coming on! Any more ideas? Dealer quoted £110 an hour but since my car is 13 years old they will only take £80 an hour! I get paid £7 an hour!:fail

Is the light on when you start the car or do you have to drive it before the light appears. Could be the tracking is out causing the steering angle sensor to have an incorrect value. It could also be the steering angle sensor it self. Or may be a wheel speed sensor.

done my brake light switch end of last year tried the reset by turning the wheel but to no avail then after about 2weeks just went out someone said fault would clear after so many start ups with no fault

I need to drive the car before the light appears, sometimes it can appear after one mile, other times after a few miles. I can flick the ignition off and on again quickly and it resets itself.

Possible abs sensor, find a Indy who isn't going to take your bulb out to repair the problem, you need the codes read, no point guessing like everyone seems to do.

Can you please say what tyre sizes you currently have on front and rear. Also the width of front wheels and rears. It's possible you might have a rolling radius problem. HTH.

If there is a large difference between front and rear rolling radius it will cause ESP failure and ABS problems.

Had similar problem with w202 1999 estate. Changed the switch but BAS ASR light stayed on. Copied my last post to see if it is of any help.

Plugged in the 32 pin adapter to the ODBII bluetooth. Downloaded the torque ODB app on google play for £2.49. It reads everything and all fault logs. The BAS ASR light was staying on after changing the switch - cleared the code and no longer on. Lets see if it comes back on but the app will log the code and tell me whats up.

This set up cost £18 - £6 for adapter cable on EBAY and £5.50 for the ODBII bluetooth then £2.49 for the app. I believe apple phones cannot do this - sucks. Lucky mine is a HTC one s.

Well worth the money.

This happened on my ML a few years ago and I went through a lot of solutions (including changing ABS sensors, and the ABS control module) based on garage diagnostics.

Cost an absolute fortune in terms of warranty claims. After lot of research, it turned out to be a faulty relay switch which controlled the ABS. So if all others solutions fail, may be worth replacing the relay (it is a low cost item and easy to change).

As others said, it might be caused by an issue with the tyres size / make / wear / pressures etc, or a fault with ABS system e.g. wheel sensor / hydraulic unit / electric component.

Some years ago I had this problem with a Vauxhall, ABS/TC light coming on intermittently, and it turned-out to be faulty brake bulb which was confusing the ABS.

At any rate code reading is the very first step.

My BAS ESP light is now out! I took it to a local independent who traced it to a faulty Lateral Acceleration sensor.Another local independent had changed it, or charged me for it 3 years ago!
