Thanks for all the advice on other threads. MY local garage (specialist in everything and have used them for 25 years) has fixed this problem which has been a pain since having the car... and the other electrical problems.
Apparently a new 'Travel Sensor' was required. Sorted 10 days ago and this intermittent warning has not come on since:bannana: useful if anyone else has the problem?

They also fixed the door lock solenoid (replacement) and the rear number plate light which turned out to be a corroded connection.

Now I just need to think about what Olympic Warranties might reimburse me for since buying the car with a 6 month warranty - should be fun perhaps?

Err... aren't you supposed to contact the warranty company before you get any work done and get a claim authorisation?

Travel Sensor - I bet its the brake light switch...

Not on the later cars..
As Guido says....

Actually yes, now that you say, we have replaced these before... its basically the same thing but its located at the servo not under the dash..

The sensor on the servo is there in all year models.
