I had another gearbox problem, this time the error code was a low voltage on the battery. Gearbox specialist changed battery and cleared the error codes. I have just noticed that the milage is now exactly 10k less on the display. I rang the gearbox people and they said all they did was change the battery and clear the code nothing else. They are stumped by what the problem could be.

Anyone any ideas?? :dk: Car is 2003 Clk 55 AMG W209

Gearbox is working fine again now. :D

TIA

This is 'apparently' a common problem. My advice, out of experience, is to get your car into a Merc Indie and get them to check the ASSYST mileage history. The mileage can be increased using STAR but, when this happened to me, I found out my car had been clocked!

My car too 'lost' 10k off the odometer.....

Thanks for the reply can you clarify something. Are you saying its a common problem that if you change your battery its possible the milage loses 10k

or are you sayingits a common problem if the car has been clocked and you change your battery the milage loses 10k

My car has been on a STAR a fair few times now with all the valeo radiator and gear box problems its had.

It seems I fix one problem and get 2 more.

Just to clarify, it appears to be a problem with a duff battery, possibly causing a 'spike' through the electronics which seems to 'lose' the 10k off the odo.

It was while I was getting this sorted that the clocking reared it's ugly head - it doesn't mean yours, or anyone elses has been!

I was told that the mileage readout can be corrected (up not down of course!) UNLESS the car had been clocked.

If you get the car on STAR, get the mechanic to go into the ASSYST service interval history and just double-check your mileage.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply that has been really useful.

The car is going back into the garage on Monday because I have another gearbox problem (luckily its under warranty) so I will give them the info and hopefully they will be able to sort it out. I doubt the car has been clocked as its done above average milage and has a full MB service history and all past MOT's, but you never know. Nothing would surprise me with it at the moment.

Thanks once again for replying its really helped me out.

Funny that, my car had 'full' service history and sequential mileage MOT's but was still clocked!

Am sure yours will be fine :)

How do you have to change the battery to get the 10K discount, does it have to be a special Merc battery? (Only Joking):bannana::bannana:
