Is there a auxiliary battery in a E class 2001 210 220 Cdi. Can I change the main battery without losing codes ?

As said, only one battery under the rear seat. Not sure if the radio will retain it's code. You will also have to re-sync the one touch windows (and sunroof if you have one)

Thanks much appreciated.

If you want to be sure of keeping all codes etc., connect a slave battery to the emergency +ve under the bonnet with the -ve to the top of the suspension - but be very careful with the main battery leads (especially the +ve) when you disconnect them as they'll still be live!!!!

Thanks will a booster be ok on the posts under the bonnet before removal of the battery?

Don't know - I'd think a battery conditioner would be OK as the current output is quite low, I'd be a bit worried that a normal charger when the main battery is sad could put out too much current and possibly cause SAM problems. Maybe if you have a second car you could connect jump leads to the emergency +ve and suspension of your car - with the second car engine off!! - and that would be OK.

What are you worried about losing? Radio code? Have you checked it's not in the handbook/service book?

Hi no radio code card. I suppose I could go to dealer for code but as a last resort . Bought the car expecting to tinker with it and on a learning curve at the moment .
