The battery (genuine MB) on my A-class has just expired after 6 years (almost to the day!).

I've bought a new battery, again genuine MB, which cost less than Halfords cheapest battery?!

Is 6 years battery life good/bad/average??

Battery life varies from car to car & usage, lots of stop start/cold starts can take there toll on a battery & can result in a shorter than expected life,my previous clk320 cab had it's original battery in & was working perfectly when i sold it a little over a year ago & 8 years old:)

Fitted the new battery myself yesterday (just as it was getting dark!).

Luckily, particularly in circumstances such as this, I have an MB dealer within walking (battery carrying) distance.

I really only use the car at weekends now, short journeys, that kind of thing. So I guess the battery may well have lasted longer if the car had seen more usage.

6 years is probably just above average.

I sold my previous car after 7 years with the original battery still in good condition, and the Merc is 5 years old with the original battery still going strong. :thumb:

But my 6 years old Renault is now on it's third battery.

I changed mine today after 7 years. It hadn't completely died, but it did slightly struggle to start on some cold mornings. It seemed a wise precaution. So that's both car batteries changed in the space of a few weeks. I'm glad of that 25% discount at ECP! :)

Do you mind me asking how much MB charged? The battery on our A150 is now 6 years old and only used for short journeys. I'm amazed it has lasted so long.

The original battery on my C240 lasted 10 years-mind you I only used the car for motor journeys and was rarely used for short journeys. So 7 years is pretty good.:)

Not at all, retail price was £66+VAT. I did manage to get a bit of a discount, however (if you don't ask, you don't get...)
