had my battery earth off whilst i did some electrical work, and re-connected after about 45mins and the car started idling a bit rough, and not revving properly, sort of like a limp mode any ideas?

its a 1999 V reg ML320, was running fine before i took the earth off?

has it reset itself (and now wants to re-learn all the driving styles in the world until it goes back to normal)/

thanks for any advice............

Depends on your idea of rough.

Its going to want to be driven for a while to adapt again and they do run a little rough until they have been given some time to sort themselves out, gearbox will probably be a little weird for a while also.

Never worked on one that has made me think it had gone into limp after powering back up but that could be just the difference between what we call limp mode.

ok how long does it normally take in terms of driving for it to sort itself / re learn etc? when i pulled away it would barely rev over 2k and wouldnt go over about 20mph, after driving it a bit longer its got better, but ive only done around 5 - 6 miles, it revs freely in neautral and you can bounce it off the limiter, and she seems to change gear ok but there is a definate reluctance for it to really pull away as strong as it used to, is that normal?

thanks for the help

No i can't say i have ever had one as bad as that, take it on a slightly longer run maybe 20ish miles should be worlds better after that if not you have a problem somewhere mate.

Leave the ignitio on for 5 mins so the throttle flap can re-learn. This should sort it.

If all of the above does not work, its possible that the MAF has gone down.

I have seen a few this year where this has happened after the battery has been taken off
