i have a Mercedes 300SL 24v and require a new battery it has an S4 battery fitted but I am advised it needs an 019 which is alot bigger and won't fit. I do think the S4 is rather small for all the electrical equipment on this car and wonder if batteries were somehow different when this car was manufactured

Does your handbook suggest a battery size?

What is the electrical capacity of the battery you have fitted?

Somewhere on the battery will be two values: One will be xxAh and one will be xxxCCA. The first is the load it can nominally sustain in Amps per hour and the second is the amount of electrical energy measured in Amps that the battery can discharge on starting.

I take it you have a S4 bosch battery fitted to your car,and you have been advised to get a 019 battery if you look on the Tanya website you will see that the 019 batteries are the same size as the S4 so cannot understand how it will not fit,of course I might have got it all about face,it has been a liquid afternoon.

Try euro car parts they normally link your reg to the correct parts. Once you know the correct battery shop about.

Bosch S4 007 battery length is 283mm 019 battery length is 343mm i have ordered a Bosch S5 007 which is the same fitment (283mm) but suitable for cars requiring more electrical power, I think
Thank You all for your attention
